New CHSN App Set For Release, Will Provide Huge Perk For Season Ticket Holders

-

There’s no way to sugarcoat it – the release of the new Chicago Sports Network has been a disaster. With CHSN unable to reach an agreement with providers like Comcast, the majority of the city has been left without a way to watch the Blackhawks and Bulls for the start of their seasons. The network released an over-the-air option for viewers with antennas (who are few and far between), but the broadcast has reportedly been spotty at best.

On Friday, the network will look to flip the script from their terrible debut when they officially launch a new direct-to-consumer subscription streaming service. For Blackhawks fans who purchase it, the news means they’ll only have to miss one more game – Thursday night in Seattle – before catching the rest on the app.

Considering that the Blackhawks, Bulls and White Sox are one of the worst sports team trios imaginable, the app is a bit pricey. Packages start at $19.99 per month for one team or $29.99 for access to the live games of all three teams. The app includes a seven-day free trial and can be cast to TV screens. In the coming weeks, the network is expected to release TV applications like Roku and Fire TV.

Despite the cost, CHSN is providing a big bonus to loyal season ticket holders of the Blackhawks and Bulls. Those individuals will receive a complimentary subscription for the rest of the seasons. It’s an interesting premise, considering that they’re providing that service to the wealthiest fans who already have access to all home games. Still, the news is a great perk for the seemingly most loyal fans of the clubs.

Now for the biggest question: has the network priced out its consumers? They’ll obviously get plenty of subscriptions. However, $19.99 per month at a minimum is a hefty sum for fans to fork over just to watch teams who are mediocre at best. With illegal streams becoming so prevalent as well, it won’t be a huge surprise if CHSN’s demand is lower than they expect.
