News broke this morning the Blackhawks have signed veteran Nick Foligno to a two-year contract extension. Foligno, who many consider the de-facto captain for the rebuilding Blackhawks, has earned the extension with his play on the ice and leadership.
” The impact nick has already had on out team in such a short time is a testament to his work ethic and dedication to helping players around him succeed.”
Blackhawks GM Kyle Davidson
Foligno, who was traded to Chicago this summer, couldn’t sign an extension until January 1st. The Blackhawks moved quickly to secure his services through 2026. According to reports, the new deal is worth $9 Million, for a cap hit of $4,5 Million per year.
Nick Foligno was originally drafted by the Ottawa Senators 28th overall in 2006. He has played for Ottawa, Columbus, Toronto, and Boston. Boston traded Foligno and Taylor Hall to Chicago in exchange for Ian Mitchell and Alec Regula.
Prior to this season, Nick Foligno had played in over 1,000 NHL games, scoring 215 goals and 310 assists.
