Blackhawks Sign Prospect Michal Teply To Entry-Level Contract

-

Teply was the first of two players the Blackhawks selected in the fourth round of the 2019 NHL Draft.

The Chicago Blackhawks and 18-year-old forward prospect Michal Teply have agreed to terms on a three-year, entry-level contract with an AAV of $825,833. The news broke on Friday afternoon via Teply’s Instagram page.

“I am so happy and honored that I signed my first NHL contract with [the Blackhawks],” Teply wrote. “I wanna say thank you [to] all [the] people around me who has helped me to get this point. I would never make this without my family, my friends, and Winnipeg Ice. I can’t forget my lovely team, BK Havlickuv Brod. Thank you.”

Teply played his first year of North American junior hockey in 2019-20 with the Winnipeg Ice of the WHL. The Havlickuv Brod, Czech native had one hell of a rookie campaign, as he led all WHL rookies in goals (29), assists (34), points (63), and game-winning goals (eight). The 6-foot-3, 192-pound winger demonstrated the wicked shot he possesses on numerous occasions this season.

Teply represented the Czech Republic at the 2019 U20 IIHF World Junior Championship, where he recorded no goals and five assists in five contests. After quite an impressive rookie season in the WHL, it appears that the Blackhawks may have stolen Teply in the fourth round of the draft.
