The Blackhawks made a statement on Tuesday standing by their name and logo while the NFL’s Washington Redskins and MLB’s Cleveland Indians are considering changing their Native American-related names.
The Chicago Blackhawks are expected to keep their Native American team name and logo despite a few other professional sports teams currently being under scrutiny for the same issue. While the Hawks often try and honor Native Americans with pre-game celebrations and intermission performances, some Native American groups in Illinois claim the attempts are racist and would like to see the name and logo changed.
