Wilson is the Blackhawks all-time leader in goals by a defenseman.
After 24 years, former Chicago Blackhawks defenseman Doug Wilson’s wait is finally over. Wilson, who is now the San Jose Sharks general manager, joins Marian Hossa, Jarome Iginla, Kevin Lowe, Ken Holland, and Kim St. Pierre in the 2020 Hockey Hall of Fame Class.
Wilson was selected sixth overall by the Blackhawks in the 1977 NHL Draft, and he went on to spend 14 of his 16 NHL seasons in Chicago. During his long tenure with the Hawks, Wilson tallied 225 goals and 554 assists for 779 points in 938 games. He is the Blackhawks all-time defenseman leader in goals (225), assists (554), points (779), power-play goals (80), power-play points (355), shorthanded goals (nine), and game-winning goals (22).
Wilson went on to play two more NHL campaigns with the Sharks, where he recorded 48 points to give him 827 on his career. Those 827 points are currently the 15th-most by an NHL defenseman. Wilson also finished top five in the Norris Trophy voting four times in his career, and he won the award with the Blackhawks in 1982.
