Caggiula racked up four hits in just 11:25 time on ice in Game 1’s 6-4 victory.
Chicago Blackhawks forward Drake Caggiula will have a hearing with the NHL Department of Player Safety on Sunday for his check to the head against Tyler Ennis in Game 1 of the best-of-five qualifying series. The incident occurred at 7:42 of the second period when Caggiula’s shoulder clipped Ennis in the head after he chipped the puck over the glass for a delay of game penalty. Caggiula was not assessed a penalty on the play.
The 26-year-old Caggiula has never been suspended or fined in his four-year NHL career. The final ruling from the Department of Player Safety is expected to be announced before Game 2, which starts at 9:30 p.m. (CT) on Monday.
In Saturday’s Game 1 victory over a handful of his former teammates, Caggiula recorded four hits and one blocked shot in 11:25 of ice time. If the Pickering, Ontario native does get suspended for the first time in his career, look for Dylan Sikura or Brandon Hagel to jump into the lineup for the Blackhawks in Monday’s contest against the Oilers.
