Word Is Many Around NFL Believe Bears Are Making Same Mistake From 2022

-

The previous Chicago Bears head coaching search seemed like it was at least well thought out. George McCaskey and advisor Bill Polian decided to cast a wide net, interviewing several candidates for the job. However, Dan Wiederer of the Chicago Tribune relayed some interesting information about that. It seems many people around the league felt the search was too big. He explained on 670 The Score that the problem with such a wide net being cast is it gives you less time to get to know the candidates.

That was especially true since they were also conducting a GM search, which ate up even more of their time. The fact interviews didn’t last into at least early February despite speaking to upwards of two dozen candidates should tell you how dangerously underinformed they probably were. The problem is, based on current information, they might be doing it again.

The Chicago Bears are expected to meet 12-14 candidates.

While not as many as three years ago, it’s still a lot. The only good news is they likely won’t be searching for a GM at the same time. At least, that is what Kevin Warren insisted on a few weeks ago. Since then the team has looked bad enough to where many wonder if Ryan Poles is in serious trouble. Presuming he stays, the Chicago Bears will try to meet with all of those candidates during the playoffs despite only being allowed three hours each per new NFL rules. If they somehow reach a decision before the end of January, it will be a clear sign they probably weren’t as thorough as they should’ve been.

The Bears have never hired a coach outside of January in franchise history. Eberflus arrived on the 27th of last year. The fact he was atrocious should tell you how undercooked the search was. One can only hope Warren and Poles are willing to take their time and get it right. Otherwise, both will be out of a job three years down the line.

The problem in Chicago is that the McCaskey family insists on being part of the process despite their lack of football knowledge. While Poles takes the blame for picking Matt Eberflus, actually George McCaskey and Bill Polian made that choice and expected Ryan Poles to agree. As a new first time GM he capitulated and they went with Eberflus. If Kevin Warren and Ryan Poles are not hindered by George McCaskey they will do a good job.

What exactly do you expect Ryan Poles to do with more time?

Get Caleb killed?

[You’re not Kwesi Adofo-Mensah incognito, are you?]

It is a low percentage chance that the Bears make a correct hire (President, GM or coach) since the people doing the hiring are the same people that have continually made the bad hires. What has Warren shown us? Flus was not Poles’ choice, Poles while not perfect has made one very good trade, made the correct decision on Fields, and drafted what looks to be a building block QB. Does he need to do more and be better? Yes. Could the families next hire be worse? Absolutely, that has been proven time and time again. You can call me… Read more »

Sallie comparing someone to Trump while calling them a moron, dolt, or worse is very Trump like of you, but I would expecting nothing less considering your narcissistic tendencies. Daddy must be proud.

Warren has already screwed the Bears out of getting Harbaugh because Harbaugh is so popular in Chicago. Warren has to be BMOC. no way he will get the coach right. All this talk about Johnson is wishful thinking. He most likely will end up anywhere he wants. Last of which will be working under Warren. They will be picking off the scrap heap…wait and see.
