Roschon Johnson was born in Port Arthur, Texas. He went to high school in Port Naches, Texas. Then he attended Texas University, turning himself into an eventual top 150 draft pick. Based on his history, one would think that his favorite NFL team would be the Dallas Cowboys or Houston Texans. Maybe the New Orleans Saints or Denver Broncos, based on proximity. That would be incorrect. Texas’ Twitter proved that when they revealed a shocking photograph of Johnson in class during the 2022 school year.
In it, he’s seen clear as day wearing a Chicago Bears sweatshirt. This offers irrefutable evidence that Johnson is a Bears fan, making the decision to draft him all the sweeter.
GM Ryan Poles said his scouts hounded him constantly with their love of Johnson leading up to the draft. It got so incessant that he teased them about it, which made them angry. After running countless simulations, the Bears felt there was no way the running back would be available after the 3rd round. So when he fell to the 4th, it seemed like a gift from the football gods. Johnson must’ve felt the same way.
Roschon Johnson arrives with a chip on his shoulder.
Even though he’d spent his college career as a backup, he still felt he’d put enough on tape to justify going earlier in the draft. Rumors suggest he was angry when he fell. That might explain why those close to him believe he will approach training camp and the preseason with a singular mindset of becoming an immediate member of the Bears’ running back rotation. Some even went so far as to say he’d be the starter by the end of 2023. That is how talented and relentless he is.

Joe Syty, the Bears’ area scout, said he believes Roschon Johnson has an “it” factor. He believes there is a strong possibility the young man will be a captain on this team in the near future. That is how significant his presence is when you’re around him. Talent isn’t a problem. Johnson has the most versatile skill set of any back on the roster. He can run, catch passes, and pass protect in equal measure. He’s also an excellent special teams player. Add the extra motivation of playing for his favorite team, and this could get fun in a hurry.
Bijan Robinson called Roschon Johnson the best teammate he has ever played with.
Who’s this Bill joker? He’s seemingly envious of Lambert. He’s extremely critical of him but yet he keeps reading his articles.
And, it’s nonsense to suggest he only wore the sweat shirt because someone gave it to him. I don’t care WHO gave me what sports gear. If it’s not my team I’m not wearing it. Obviously, Bill would wear anything.
Don’t make shit up Lambert! Unless you got a direct quote from Johnson that the Bears were his favorite team his wearing a Bears sweatshirt doesn’t mean squat! His girlfriend might have been a Bears fan and bought it for him! Or maybe his Dad was a Bears fan and he bought it for hum!
Not going to lie, I did not know much about Roschon going into the 2023 draft, I was more interested in what the Bears were going to do with the #9 pick, and who they were going to get to shore up the OL and DL. The only RB’s I really looked into were B.Rob, Gibbs, and Charbonnet. When the Bears selected the so-called (back up) RB from Texas, I got to tell you, it raised an eyebrow with me and I thought to myself, “Well this could be interesting.” After watching film tape on Roschon and reading about how… Read more »
Let’s go Ro’ Jo’!!
Running is good.
Recieving outta the backfields is awesome…but
Pass PRO!! will win him the MOST points with coaches and more importantly with JF.
if I played Fantasy Football I would ‘steal’ this guy in the 6th round and stash him until week 3 or 4…. then start him the rest of the season.
