Why This Seemingly Insane Chicago Bears Move Should Get Fans Excited

-

GOING ALL OUT

The Bears know full well they can’t use a winning season to galvanize the fans into watching next year. Nor can they rely on traditional Chicago loyalties. The Cubs got away with it because of how they made the Wrigley Field experience so enjoyable for so long. The Bears haven’t really done any of that at Soldier Field for a long time.

So the only course left open to them is by being aggressive in their pursuit of high profile talent. That will get people intrigued and charged up about 2017. Their decision to raise ticket prices in order to help compensate for the money being spent will have been justified at that point. If the Bears were to acquire somebody like an A.J. Bouye or even an Eric Berry, it could change the entire complexion of the season.

That’s not even counting the persistent trade rumors they’re connected to on Jimmy Garoppolo.

If the Bears were able to get talents of those calibers and then put a strong draft on top of it all? Yeah, it would be mighty difficult to not get a little bit excited about 2017. It felt throughout last season like they were a young team ready to turn the corners. Lots of close games and strong efforts. Just couldn’t close the deal often enough. To say nothing of the crazy amount of injuries they suffered.

A massive infusion of productive, young veterans and a little luck on the health front? Yeah, there is definitely a sneaky logic to their thinking.
