David Montgomery has a lot on his mind these days. He’s the first draft pick of the Chicago Bears 2019 class. That comes with a certain degree of expectations. Something he’s grown used to since his time and Iowa State. Not only is he expected to challenge for the starting running back job, but he also has the tough task of replacing a proven player in Jordan Howard. A man who went to a Pro Bowl and set the rookie rushing record in 2016.
One can imagine this calls for certain methods of stress relief from time to time. Not that Montgomery can’t handle pressure. If anything he enjoys it since he believes it just makes him better. Still, sometimes a guy just wants to cut loose. It’s merely a matter of how. Some prefer video games. Others go to shooting ranges or even meditations. Then there those who turn to music.
It turns out Montgomery is one such type. He posted on Instagram recently of himself (in a Chicago Bulls hat) in the car jamming to the classic hit song “I Write Sins Not Tragedies” by Panic! At The Disco. The only better than the tune itself was watching the Bears running back jam.
David Montgomery has good taste in music, if nothing else
It’s rather rare to see a young black man dabbling in such music. Most of the time one expects them to be listening to rap and hip-hop. Maybe some Drake, Post Malone, or Travis Scott. Instead, he goes for a straight rock band like PATD. Proof again that music is indeed the universal language. Especially a song that was certified platinum five times in the United States.

It is a good tune. Try not bopping your head when it comes on the radio. Montgomery certainly can’t. It’ll be interesting to see what he does come training camp too. The Bears blast music during practices every year. What will happen if this song comes up in the rotation? One thing is for sure. Cell phone cameras should be trained on him if and when that happens.
