Wanny Throws Crazy Comp At JJ McCarthy You Won’t Believe!

-

One of the advantages of participating in the Scouting Combine is doing well, resulting in seeing your draft stock rise. No one helped their draft status more than Michigan quarterback JJ McCarthy. Before this weekend, all the QB conversations began and ended with Caleb Williams, Drake Maye, and Jayden Daniels.

Rumors from Indianapolis have shed light on how teams around the league view McCarthy. His on-field performance was excellent. More important, though was McCarthy impressed during every interview at the Combine. His stock continues to soar.

Former Bears head coach Dave Wannstedt recently appeared on the NBC Sports podcast “Football Night In Chicago” with host David Haugh. Both were quick to compliment the hometown kid. Haugh threw out a comp for McCarthy, saying he is cut from the same cloth as former Falcon QB Matt Ryan.

Wannstedt immediately followed with this bombshell. Comparing him to Tom Brady!

Impressive! McCarthy hasn’t received a lot of the attention he rightfully deserves due to the run-heavy offense Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh used to win the NCAA National Championship. McCarthy only lost one game at Michigan and threw for 6,226 yards, 49 TDs, and only 11 interceptions for the Wolverines.

Jim Harbaugh said of McCarthy after being hired to be the head coach of the Los Angeles Chargers, “McCarth should be the first quarterback Catchselected in this year’s draft.”

I’m also on the J.J. bandwagon. Do what it takes to snag MHJ, and J.J. will most likely be there at #9. In FA, get Barkley, Fant, and another receiver. OK, defenses, try to stop us now.

I would take JJ over CW any day. Say what you will about J Harbaugh, but the man knows QBs and how the position should be played. If Harbaugh is actually that impressed with JJ, fans across the teams should take note and weigh carefully what all the experts, insiders, and writers in the media are hyping. If Chicago trades J Fields (which I think would a drastic mistake), I hope they trade the #1 pick and select the best WR and then take JJ at (, or reversed by taking JJ with their first pick and the best WR… Read more »

After we trade the top pick for an unprecedented haul we may indeed wind up drafting him. It’s too early to tell how it’s all going to fall out. I continue to say stay away from Williams.

I wouldn’t touch him early in the 1st round. Sorry, I still think he and Maye need to sit a year. JJ is the most like JF, in that neither sat in college. He throws a better crossing route than Maye, but anything 15 yards and beyond on out routes the ball sails on him. His WRs helped him out, as they were great with contested catches. Daniels WRs were just wide open by 5 yards.

Didn’t any of you watch McCarthy at the Combine? He overthrew a bunch of WR’s on the out routes badly! You have to mute the biased Rich Eisen and pay attention to what was really happening. Eisen kept harping on last year’s Stroud during this period and it was really annoying. I am talking about facts that people need to research. I discount everything Rich Eisen says about Michigan players after what I witnessed. McCarthy has many great skills but accuracy is not one of them. Don’t take my word for it. Get the tape somehow and see all the… Read more »
