VIDEO: Chicago Bears Get Big Mention In Hilariously Awkward SNL Skit

-

It seems the Chicago Bears got a lot of attention after their big and unexpected win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Thursday Night Football. One can understand. They’d needed two huge comebacks and a goal-to-go stand to win their first three games. Then they got hammered by the Indianapolis Colts just four days prior.

Why would anybody give them a reasonable shot to beat Tom Brady? A man who was a perfect 5-0 against the Bears in his career. Things certainly played out as expected for most of the first half. Brady staked the Bucs to a 13-0 lead. Chicago’s offense couldn’t generate anything. It looked like Tampa was ready to blow the doors off the game.

Then things took a dramatic shift.

Nick Foles led a gutty TD drive with under four minutes to go. Then a huge hit and forced fumble by Kyle Fuller set the Bears up with a short field for another. Just like that, it was 14-13. After a back-and-forth second half, Chicago connected on a 38-yard go-ahead field goal to win 20-19. Their third comeback victory in five games.

It seems this huge win caught the attention of the creative team at Saturday Night Live as they incorporated it into a skit featuring host Bill Burr. He plays a sports commentator named Gill Scott who celebrates winning a bet for a steak dinner over the Bears winning. The problem is his co-host Kevin Dozier admits to not watching the game due to the tragic shooting death of black man Kareem Jenkins at the hands of police.

If you think that’s awkward? Just wait.

Chicago Bears are finally getting some respect

SNL has a long history of incorporating the Bears into their skits. Bill Swerski and the Superfans are among the most legendary in the show’s history. If nothing else, the show doing this is validation that the Bears have the attention of the wider national media. Beating Tom Brady in primetime can have that effect.

Khalil Mack even got a mention of his own on the wrestling show WWE Smackdown. This due to the video of him hip-tossing Bucs right tackle Tristan Wirfs. At 4-1, this team is starting to gain some traction and the crazy part is they haven’t even come close to playing their best football yet. If and when that happens, this could be a fun finish to the 2020 season.
