VIDEO: Bears’ Plans For Larry Borom Appear To Have Changed

-

The Chicago Bears seemed to have a clear idea of what they wanted to do back in August regarding their offensive line. Perhaps the most surprising was to put 5th round rookie Larry Borom at left tackle in practice, preseason, and eventually the regular season. This despite having never played it in college. Early signs were quite promising. Then a freak accident saw him suffer a high ankle sprain against the Rams. He has been out ever since.

At last, Borom appears to have returned to practice. The big question for everybody out there is whether or not the Bears might try to get him involved in game action. That remains to be determined. However, based on recent video evidence courtesy of Sean Hammond of Shaw Media? It looks like the team has scrapped their original plans. Borom was spotted at practice working at right tackle.

This shouldn’t be a surprise.

The reality is the Bears are hurting quite badly at the right tackle spot. Germain Ifedi remains sidelined with a knee injury. Elijah Wilkinson is on the COVID list. That leaves them with two options. Lachavious Simmons, who was abused by Tampa Bay, and Alex Bars who is a guard. Given Larry Borom played right tackle most of his college career at Missouri? It makes perfect sense the team would move him back there. They need options.

It was interesting to see he was practicing with the Bears’ first offensive unit. This at least suggests the possibility that Borom may play on Sunday against the San Francisco 49ers. A bit of a surprise considering he just started practicing for the first time in weeks. Then again, that is how desperate the offense is for help at this point. The 49ers’ defensive ends of Nick Bosa and Arik Armstead are no joke. It might be unfair to ask the rookie to return this quickly, but there are few alternatives.
