Alright, things are starting to get out of hand when it comes to the media. Its common knowledge at this point that the Bears aren’t held in high regard on a national level. However, in a recent post from USA Today, the Bears received absolutely no respect. USA Today writer Nate Davis dropped his infamous record predictions for all of the 32 NFL teams. He has the Bears going 5-11.
Honestly, I don’t even know where to start. These projections are just that bad. It get’s even worse when you read Davis’s explanation as to why the Bears don’t win more than five games.
Admitting you’re unsettled at quarterback is tantamount to admitting you’re likely facing a rough road. And with newcomer Nick Foles just now getting familiarized with his teammates, the dilemma under center could drag out well into the season. But even if Foles or Mitch Trubisky plays to the top of his potential, the offense is still largely devoid of speed, while the once-feared defense looks vulnerable in several spots.

USA Today couldn’t be more wrong
The Bears defense is the one sure-fire thing that got better this off-season. They added Robert Quinn. They’re getting back a healthy Akiem Hicks. They drafted CB Jaylon Johnson. Danny T and Roquan Smith are both healthy and highly motivated. It’s Chuck Pagano’s second year with this defense. I could go on and on but you get my point. This unit has a very good chance to be a top 5 defense in the NFL this year. There’s that much talent. As far as the QB situation, I understand how it might be perceived in a negative way. But here’s the thing.
The Bears went 8-8 last season with an offense that was non-existent. Throwing in Foles will only make this offense better. It will either push Trubisky to improve his game or Foles will eventually take over and be an upgrade. So no matter how you cut it, this Bears team is way better than what people are giving them credit for. But that’s nothing new.
The only way for the Bears to out grow this narrative, is to go out and win.
But seriously 5-11?! Come on, man.
