There Is One Player Chicago Bears Would Trade Up In The Draft For

-

While trading up in the top 10 seems unlikely for the Chicago Bears, they are in a unique position where trading into the bottom of the 1st round is plausible. They have two picks at the top of the 2nd round, giving them strong positioning for such a move. As always, such actions are dictated by a specific player they want being available. A source informed SM that there is one name in this class the Bears are prepared to go after if he falls far enough. That is Missouri wide receiver Luther Burden III.

His case might be one of the most curious in the 2025 draft. Burden was excellent in 2023, going for over 1200 yards and nine touchdowns. Unfortunately, he followed that up with 676 yards and six touchdowns. Some feel he gets too lazy at times, taking plays off. Consequently, his draft stock has cooled. That said, many in the league believe he has a bright career ahead of him.

“I think he got bored with that offense. His playing style is like Jerry Jeudy but with Amon-Ra St. Brown’s hands and toughness.” — NFC national scout

Mel Kiper has Burden going 38th overall to New England. Chad Reuter of NFL.com has him going 37th to Las Vegas. Matt Miller has him going 20th to Denver, and Rob Rang of FOX Sports said 40th to the Saints. It appears most believe he likely goes before the Bears pick again at 39th overall, which would necessitate a trade up.

The Chicago Bears wouldn’t have to pay a huge price.

Moving from #39 to the top of the 2nd round wouldn’t be too cost-prohibitive. Last year, the Atlanta Falcons went from #43 to #35 in the 2nd round, giving Arizona a 3rd round pick in exchange for a 6th rounder. The Chicago Bears’ price would be even lower if they targeted the same area from #39. Everything comes down to how determined they are to get Burden or if they’re willing to gamble on letting him fall. Head coach Ben Johnson loves his mix of size and speed to go along with instinctive playmaking ability. His knack for yards after the catch is a major selling point, along with his route-running skills. If anybody can fill that Amon-Ra St. Brown role in Johnson’s offense, Burden is the guy.

There is no need to trade up in this draft. Decent, but not elite players are available everywhere. Why waste picks on Burden? You have a good chance to deepen your roster overall because you’re really not dependent on many guys being day 1starters. But there is a legit chance they can draft 3 guys who will be starters or important role players by the end of the season if they are developed properly. Again, they have 4 picks in the top 72. Theirs is real value in that and there’s no need to lower that value. If a scenario… Read more »

I think they’ll trade down & get more picks.

I agree with the other posts here. There’s no need to trade up when there are other good options available at WR!
We can’t afford to waste picks.
