The Packers Drafted Aaron Rodgers’ Successor and Fans Are Pissed

-

The Green Bay Packers have had a golden horseshoe up their collective rears for close to 30 years when it comes to the quarterback position. So one can understand why they might feel a little bit bulletproof when it comes to making decisions at that position. Hence why they felt more than comfortable trading up in the 1st round of the NFL draft to select a successor to Aaron Rodgers in Utah State’s Jordan Love.

It was a thunderclap moment for fans and not in a good way. Unlike 2005, Love wasn’t a contender for the #1 overall pick like Rodgers was. Most saw him as the 4th-best QB in this draft. For an idea of how little teams thought of him? The New England Patriots and New Orleans Saints, both who have even more pressing needs at the position with Tom Brady gone and Drew Brees in his 40s decided to pass on him. That should be a telling red flag.

The Packers also didn’t even bother to give Rodgers a heads-up, which is a pretty significant slap in the face. A guy who is going to the Hall of Fame and just led you to the NFC championship with a 13-3 record doesn’t get more help on offense to win in 2020. Instead, he has to deal with this.

Suffice to say lots of Packer fans weren’t happy about it.

Aaron Rodgers isn’t known for being the chummy sort

A lot of people are saying that Rodgers will be a good mentor for Love. On what planet do they believe that? The QB made it clear whenever asked that if the Packers drafted a possible successor, that guy would get to watch him from the bench for a long time. Given his notorious history of being difficult to keep happy, this is not going to help matters. Every decision the Packers have made since last year have almost been designed to anger him.

They hired head coach Matt Lafleur without consulting him. Now they don’t even bother to get him more help on offense and instead serve a reminder that his days are numbered. It wouldn’t be a shock at all if he tries to force his way out of town after this coming season. Especially if it doesn’t go as hoped in the win-loss column. Then Green Bay can see if they made the right call.
