Something strange is going on at Halas Hall. Things started getting weird for the team in September when defensive coordinator Alan Williams stepped away from the organization. He cited family and health problems. However, there were rumblings that something else was going on. It involved a potential legal issue that required involvement from a cyber security team. Details of what happened haven’t come to light, though. It felt like the Bears were past whatever happened. That is until November 1st.
Following the trade deadline, Kevin Fishbain and Adam Jahns of The Athletic revealed that Chicago has fired another assistant. This time, it’s running backs coach David Walker. There is no way it has anything to do with performance. Chicago’s running backs have looked good for most of the season. Whatever the problem was, it involved the team’s human resources department. That means it involved something that could have serious legal ramifications if not dealt with.
“The Chicago Bears have fired running backs coach David Walker, according to multiple league sources. The team’s human resources department was involved in the decision.”
The Chicago Bears have yet another concern with this staff.
Things are bad enough with Matt Eberflus being 5-20 through the first one and a half seasons as head coach. His inability to elevate this roster to more victories despite a semi-favorable schedule is concerning. Now, there is a dark cloud hanging over the staff. Something happened behind closed doors, and it was bad enough that two assistants have been forced out. It’s hard not to think Williams’ resignation and Walker’s firing aren’t connected. Both involved the HR department.
The way the organization has been so tight-lipped on the situation says a lot about how serious it could be. Walker joined the Chicago Bears in 2022 after three seasons with the Detroit Lions. He’s a well-respected running backs coach. His work on the field can’t be argued. Unfortunately, it appears some decision off it has cost him his job. It’s also another blemish on Eberflus’ track record. It is never a good sign when two people you personally hired are quietly dismissed for HR purposes.

And the Bears just lost Travis Bell today, too. Second year in a row we lost a player we drafted off our practice squad without giving him even a look in the regular season.
I would call this regime a dumpster fire but dumpster fires are more organized than this. It’s like someone just drew random names from a hat and said here’s your GM and coaches.
And the dystopian saga continues…
Do we even vet potential hires? Just wondering…
This regime looks worse n worse every day. Yet I can’t help but feel like they will all b back next year, and that SUCKS.
