The Chicago Bears delivered their best performance of 2023 last Sunday against the Detroit Lions. It must’ve felt vindicating for the players. They still had the bitter taste of their 4th quarter collapse at Ford Field a few weeks prior. Everybody felt the Bears were chokers, that they couldn’t finish. So they arrived at Soldier Field with bad intentions. After a back-and-forth first half, the Bears found another gear in the second. The offense scored 18 unanswered points, while the defense shut out Detroit’s offense the rest of the way for a 28-13 victory. None had more fun than Teven Jenkins.
The Bears’ left guard is in the midst of his best season yet with the team. Injury issues aside, he has played at a Pro Bowl level throughout November and December. It was more of the same against Detroit. He abused Lions defenders with his trademark physical play in the run game and was a virtual brick wall in pass protection. There were plenty of moments where he gave guys a little extra during plays, but the afternoon’s highlight came during an apparent fumble return. They knocked not one but two Lions players to the ground while going out of bounds.
It was here where Jenkins gave #30 Khalil Dorsey a sight he will never forget.
Teven Jenkins was lucky.
The NFL has nothing in the rulebook about penalties for teabagging. Not that the guard would’ve cared. The point had already been made. Cameras caught it. Jenkins went back to the huddle and resumed doing what he did best for the rest of the game. It’s a shame the announce team didn’t highlight that play a little more. Alas, at least it is one more piece of video Bears fans get to enjoy about the biggest win their team has had in over a year. All they can hope for is more good stuff like this from Jenkins.

One discussion that is becoming unavoidable is his contract status. Nobody can dispute that Teven Jenkins is a monster when he plays. He’s been the Bears’ best offensive lineman for two years now. Under normal circumstances, preparing an extension for him seems obvious. The problem is he’s yet to play a full season in the NFL due to various injury setbacks. GM Ryan Poles has to make a tough decision. Either he looks to extend Jenkins anyway, likely with injury protection clauses in the deal, or he lets the guard play out the final year of his rookie contract. That will be a fascinating storyline to follow.
Lol! It doesnt matter who drafted Jenkins. He can play. Yes he’s occasionally injury prone. I think Poles will offer a deal and he’ll come back.. Hes too good a player not to be offered a deal.
Awesome posts, BTW.
We just need a solid pivot up front. We have to be able to control the LOS up the middle on both sides of the ball. We can’t have a center that can’t snap the ball. Whitehair should be buying Teven(and me) Chipotle every day.
No one here knows more about receiving a good tea bagging than Dr. Melhus. If he said it didn’t look deliberate I believe him. That being said he still is a pompous windbag.
TJ, is not only our best lineman but tone setter for the whole team. Seeing him play is a work of art and demolition. Pay that man because he’s worth it
