Shane Waldron Is Already On Hot Seat After Inexplicable Play Call

-

Scoring zero points in the first half against one of the worst defenses in the NFL who were playing without their best player is pretty much an exclamation point for how bad the Chicago Bears offense is. People have taken turns blaming Caleb Williams and the offensive line. However, it is becoming clear many of the issues stem from a lack of identity and a lack of discipline. That falls directly at the feet of new offensive coordinator Shane Waldron. First of all, against the worst run defense in the NFL, he had Williams throw it 27 times in the first half.

Yet what made it so much worse was how Waldron handled the team’s best scoring opportunity. With the ball inside the five, they ran four straight runs. All of them were out of shotgun, first of all. That was bad enough. Making it worse was that Roschon Johnson, their best short-yardage back, didn’t get any of the carries. By far the worst moment came on 4th down at the one. Waldron didn’t run the ball up the middle or have Williams run a play action. He instead called a pitch to D’Andre Swift for a 12-yard loss.

Shane Waldron won’t last the season at this rate.

There is no way the offense should look this out of sorts, not with the level of talent they have. All of the problems stem form poor execution, poor play calling, and poor personnel usage. Shane Waldron has no idea what he wants this offense to be. As a result, neither do the players. This leads to confusion and no sense of urgency. Luke Getsy wasn’t good, but he at least made sure the Bears were a good rushing team. Waldron took over almost the exact same offensive line and has crafted by far the worst. If this trend continues through what should be the easiest part of the Bears’ schedule? It isn’t inconceivable to think the team will make a change. This can’t continue.

Did Waldron have any idea what the Bears ran last year? This O-Line was put together as maulers. The run game has dropped through a trap door to never be seen again?

I never knew that Luke Getsy had a twin, who might be even less of a coach.

Wait… is that even possible?!

We lost that game due to coaching. And the players did plenty to lose it themselves.

Oh, the play that will go down in infamy for a 12yd loss?

Way too many passes and not enough Roschon at least in the first half, but not even playing in that winnable Houston game. Giving Herbert the ball at the goal line rather than Roschon? Rome had a good game.

The lesson here: if you have a very good runner and running game mentality, even Richardson can defeat Caleb who passes for over 300yds with turnovers. And Buckner did not play and Latu played less than at 100%. Newton played, for sure.
