Roquan Smith Goes Off With Recent Comments Regarding Justin Fields

-

Roquan Smith, former linebacker for the Chicago Bears, recently featured on the Punch Line Podcast, where he shared intriguing insights about his former teammate, quarterback Justin Fields.

“He’s a talented dude and can really make things happen but the Bears need to put some weapons around him.”

Roquan Smith is making a valid point. Aside from DJ Moore and Cole Kmet, Justin Fields lacks other standout playmakers on the team. While the offensive line is solid, there’s a gap at the center position, and the running backs are performing well. However, adding someone like Ohio State wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. could significantly enhance Fields performance. Smith didn’t just stop at that; he went on to criticize the Bears franchise further and draw comparisons between Fields and his own current quarterback.

“If Justin was in a system where he actually had pieces around him, I think the dude would light it up. He would be a threat very similar to Lamar Jackson.”

Roquan Smith wouldn’t have said this unless he genuinely meant it.

Smith’s comments wouldn’t carry as much weight if he were still a member of the Bears. However, he is now a Raven, yet he continues to advocate that Justin Fields can become a franchise quarterback. He is not alone in this opinion, as other current NFL players share and will likely continue to share the same stance.

I don’t’ agree with much that Roquan Smith has to say but I do agree with him here. Adding the right talent improves the whole team and specifically the quarterback with more talent at wide receiver.

It seems, reading comments, that we all “need” to be “right.” First, Roquan Smith isn’t sniping, he’s asked, he answers. Second, while we can be critical of Bears coaching, QBing, offense, defense, the fact is, it is getting better – so maybe someone is listening (not to the trade/dump/draft comments, but playing and game plans. There are always going to be people who get more myopic, focusing on a single play, game or statistics to support their insistence that someone is terrible. The job of everyone else is to get better. The perpetual myopia simply makes those people more and… Read more »

@FootballAtArlington1 Uhhh . . . Roquan Smith IS winning. Check out how the Ravens are doing. They have a “running back who throws,” (Lamar Jackson) and Smith is leading that historically defensive team in tackles, and the Ravens signed Jackson to a long-term contract AFTER his 5 year rookie was up, AND they fired their coordinator after they signed Jackson AND after a slow start this year, they’re averaging 30+ points a game with Jackson getting 300+ yards a game. AND they’re in the playoffs hunt. Not bad for a team that does everything you hate with players you hate.… Read more »

@Ralph Law – You are stupid when it comes to football. I’m guessing you are stupid across the board.

Poles is NOT qualified to make a determination of the future of an athlete like Justin Fields.
