The Chicago Bears knew they needed an impact moment this offseason. Some kind of move that could push them in the right direction for 2020. To the surprise of many they signaled the end of the Leonard Floyd experiment when they signed veteran pass rusher Robert Quinn to a five-year contract worth $70 million. A massive investment.
Thus far almost two weeks into training camp, Quinn has been largely invisible. He missed the first initial practices with a personal issue. After that head coach Matt Nagy said the team was taking it slow ramping him up. An indication the newest outside linebacker might be dealing with some kind of minor injury.
Some in the media were sounding nervous about what his status was. Those fears were alleviated when the veteran completed his first full practice without restrictions at Soldier Field on Sunday. Not only that but by the sound of things Quinn sure didn’t waste time making his presence felt. Multiple reports indicate he gave the Bears tackles fits in drills and scrimmages.
Robert Quinn sounds like a man who expects to dominate
He hasn’t had many appearances in front of the media. When he does, Quinn can come across as somewhat softspoken and introverted. Not a guy prone to yapping it up. However, don’t mistake that for somebody who is passive. This guy has a sharp mind and is constantly thinking. Couple that with world-class athleticism? It’s not hard to understand why he has 80 career sacks.

From all accounts up to this point, the Bears defense is ready for action. The unit has looked tremendous for most of training camp. This despite Akiem Hicks missing several practices with a nagging quad issue. Provided he returns and Quinn is ready to go, that pass rush has a chance to be something truly special. To say nothing of their playmakers like Kyle Fuller and Eddie Jackson on the back end.
