Robert Griffin III posted a video on his X (Twitter) account earlier today imploring Caleb Williams to pull an Eli Manning on the Chicago Bears ahead of the 2024 draft. You can see the video here.
Griffin, of course, is a former QB for the Washington Redskins. Part of his rant raises issues with how the Bears organization treated Justin Fields. Speaking about the Fields situation Griffin had this to say:
“Can caleb williams really look at that and say can this organization have my best interests at heart and help me, and they’re going to develop me into the player that i want to become?”

To provide context, Eli Manning was the most sought-after rookie QB entering the 2004 draft. The San Diego Chargers owned the top pick in the draft. Eli Manning and his father Archie Manning warned the Chargers that Eli would not play for the Chargers. They warned the Chargers GM, Eli would sit out his rookie year if the team chose him.
The Chargers drafted Manning with the first pick of the 2004 draft. Ultimately the Chargers struck a deal with the New York Giants. The Giants drafted Phillip Rivers and traded him to San Diego for Manning. The Chargers also received a 2024 third-round pick (used to select kicker Nate Kaeding) and a first-round pick in 2005, San Diego used to select LB Shawne Merriman.

Robert Griffin III Thinks Pittsburgh “Stole” Fields
RGIII doubled down on his rant detailed in an article posted by Chris Ward at steelersnow.com.
“The Pittsburgh Steelers just robbed the Chicago Bears on the weekend in broad daylight. Getting Justin Fields in 2024, giving up ABSOLUTELY NOTHING in 2024 and only giving up a 2025 6th round pick that MIGHT turn into a 4th rounder. This is what we call BIG BANK take little bank,”

You can read the article at the Steelers Now site.
Responses to RGIII’s post have mostly been negative as one can imagine, calling his rant a terrible take:
Caleb Williams, or whomever the Bears choose to be their future QB will step into perhaps the best situation any rookie quarterback selected number one overall in recent memory. Chicago now must accept what has been granted. The Bears have a shot at a true franchise QB on a roster that is now playoff-ready.
It’s time to move on.
@TGena: So we have conflicting reports from respected journalists. Rapoport and Courtney Cronin of ESPN both reported that there were other offers, but Fields wanted the Steelers. Brad Biggs doesn’t believe that. None of these parties have revealed their sources. Clearly, one of these two parties is wrong. We’ll see what else comes out. Fields may make a statement, or not. It then comes down to who do we want to believe. It seems clear that TGena will latch onto any report that makes Poles look bad like a starving baby latches onto its mother’s teat. I try to be… Read more »
@Dreddog — It’ll be fun tomorrow. But, it really should be pretty easy for the young man. No one’s coming for him. But, we’ll see. You know I’m not a big Ryan Poles fan — but a GM has the right to do anything he wants — because his team’s future (as well as his) rides on his selections (and that includes the trades he might make). I looked at some PFF data on Caleb Williams and there are some issues i have with him holding the ball and his very slow delivery on screen passes — but then I… Read more »
@TGena Too real? Lol, They better not! When you poke the bear, you pull back a nub! Sometimes folks find out that’s a hard lesson to learn! And yep, I’m going to be into those pro days. I was watching some film on Caleb Williams, And I think everyone will get used to this kid. After all, it ain’t his fault The situation turned out like it did, if they do select him, I’m looking forward to camp and the preseason. I think Ryan Poles has a few tricks up his sleeve yet. Or at least I hope he does,… Read more »
@Dreddog —
Hey “Dredd” I was just thinking of you (and “Twitchy”).
Some clown got a little “too real” with me and — well you know. It took me back.
Anyway, enjoy the upcoming pro days.
@TGena This is true! And an excellent point. Hearsay is just that, and sometimes not even that. That’s kind of what the whole insider thing is, lol! And insider claims to be in the know, they heard something, then they go out and tell something. And if they never hear anything, they still go out and say they did so their name is on a headliner! I suppose it gets kind of easy to get caught up in all of that BS, but in actuality, who really knows? Way back when, you kind of got excited when you saw the… Read more »
