REPORT: The Luke Getsy Experiment Has Officially Ended

-

Matt Eberflus felt Luke Getsy was a strong choice for Chicago Bears offensive coordinator because of his background in the wide-zone system and his strong reputation among peers. It was a gamble, but the head coach felt it’d be worth it. Sadly, as is often the case with this team, the gamble failed. After two seasons, Getsy failed to elevate the offense to where it needed to be. As a result, reports have surfaced that the Bears have fired the coordinator after two seasons. Quarterbacks coach Andrew Janocko will join him.

Nobody will be surprised by this. Among the issues with the Bears this past season, many felt it was the offense not pulling its weight. While they still ran the ball well enough, the continued ineptitude of their passing game led to building frustration in the locker room. D.J. Moore called Getsy “fine” after the loss to Green Bay in the season finale. Not exactly a ringing endorsement. Jaylon Johnson piled on a day later when he stated Justin Fields “is not the problem.”

The writing was on the wall.

Replacing Luke Getsy will be a big challenge.

The perception among many potential candidates is that Eberflus will be a lame-duck coach. If he has another losing season in 2024, there is a chance he and the staff will be fired. That means they’d be signing up for one year of work before once again being unemployed. Not ideal. This means the Bears must work hard to offer assurances that won’t be the case. They are committed to Eberflus, especially as it appears they have plans to make a big change at quarterback with the #1 overall pick.

It is a reasonable assumption the man who replaced Luke Getsy will be someone with play calling experience. There could be a number of options out there. Eric Bieniemy, Kellen Moore, Greg Roman, and Darrell Bevell seem like possibilities. Perhaps they delve into the college ranks for help. The possibilities are extensive. Whether they can land any of them is the bigger question. One thing is certain. Getsy’s exit makes it all but certain that a quarterback change is coming.

I get paid more than $140 to $170 per hour for working online. I heard about this job 3 months ago and after joining this I have earned easily $10k from this without having online working skills. Simply give it a shot on the accompanying site…

@Rick Deckard Do you think Poles seems unsure about what to do at the quarterback position? The Bears lack depth. They need far more of their draft picks to be coached up. Whether a player is a starter or a rotational player or a back up. Every one of them needs to be able to step up, and be productive. That was obvious throughout the year, but against GB, as DJ Moore fought his injury and exhaustion, the frustration was apparent. He had no help, and Fields had no place to throw. No one has been coached enough to be… Read more »

No way Flus should stay! He gave 3 games away with big leads in the final minutes! Think about it, Bears could be 10-7 and playoff bound.
And how does OL coach Morgan stick around with all the penalties, sacks and plays where the OL looked so confused?
Screw mediocrity! We need elite coaches not wannabes. WTF?

“. . . and his strong reputation among peers.” Is “peer” reputation mean he has lots of “likes?” That he hangs out well? Maybe they should change their criteria. Where is “cheap,” on the priority scale? Do not hire that way again. If you want me to interview your candidates, just ask. I’ve never worked in the NFL, but I know how to identify what you’re looking for. Grab a book off a shelf. Open it and hand it to a coach. Give him 20 minutes to read, and then explain what it says, and what it means. That is… Read more »

I get paid $0 per hour to type this message. The Bears just got rid of nearly the entire offensive coaching staff. And boy, were they offensive. Bad jokes aside. Poles still seems unsure of what to do at the QB position meaning that he thinks Fields can still improve. Along with plenty of positive comments from both current and retired players, it seems that many people think Fields can be a quality starting QB and that Getsy was the problem. Fields may yet have a bright future. I just wonder how playing on a decent team with a legitimate… Read more »
