Remember How Caleb Williams Tipped Off The Odunze Pick? He’s At It Again

-

Everybody knew that Caleb Williams would be the #1 overall pick last April. The Chicago Bears had worked overly hard to hide it. There was no reason to. They held the top spot in the draft. Whether other teams knew their intentions was immaterial. By far, the bigger mystery was their plans for the 9th pick. In a surprise twist, Williams seemed to tip everybody off when he tweeted he just so happened to run into Rome Odunze on a flight to Detroit for the draft. It turned out the two had been working together throughout the pre-draft process. Coincidentally, GM Ryan Poles was a huge fan of Odunze. Anybody with common sense could connect the dots.

Well, the Bears’ young quarterback might be doing it again. The draft is just over a month away. Following the first wave of free agency, it’s becoming easier to discern how the top of the 1st round will likely unfold. Miami quarterback Cam Ward will probably go #1 overall, either to the Titans or whoever trades into that spot. Shadeur Sanders will follow at #2 or #3. From there, Travis Hunter, Abdul Carter, and Mason Graham are expected to go quickly. The biggest question mark is that of Ashton Jeanty. After his incredible 2024 season that saw him threaten Barry Sanders’ single-season rushing record, most feel he will go somewhere in the top 10.

Based on Williams’ latest Instagram activity, he seems to have a good idea of where.

Caleb Williams seems to have an eye on Jeanty.

It shouldn’t be a surprise. The guy was a Heisman finalist for a reason. He carried Boise State to its first-ever college football playoff berth. Williams also isn’t stupid. Chicago was 25th in rushing last season, and that was with his help as a scrambler. They need to get better at running the ball. A rare talent like Jeanty would be an instant upgrade. Besides, everybody knows who the head coach is. Ben Johnson loved running the football in Detroit. Across his three years with the Lions, they were 13th, 8th, and 4th in rushing attempts per game.

Subscribe to the BFR Youtube channel and ride shotgun with Dave and Ficky as they break down Bears football like nobody else.

There is no question he might be salivating at the idea of having Jeanty in his backfield. He and Caleb Williams would create a formidable combo. What remains uncertain is whether the running back will be there. Some insiders believe he’s a favorite to land with the Las Vegas Raiders at the #6 pick. However, if that doesn’t happen, no other team feels like a landing spot until the Bears go on the clock. Williams seems to like that idea.

What would the Bears or Cowboys have to trade up in front of the Raiders in order to get Jeanty?

I am wondering what CW‘s mock draft would be

I would go a little further than @barry_mccockiner and suggest that they actively seek an opportunity to trade QB1 while there’s still suckers to be had. And they’d better hurry…. Raiders already signed Geno so the sucker pool is getting pretty small(basically just the Giants at this point). Before everyone who’s ever clicked on this website down votes me all at once, ask yourselves a simple question: Who in the NFL would trade multiple first round picks for Caleb Williams right now? If you’re being honest it’s a very small list, which tells you everything you need to know about… Read more »

@barry_mccockiner As for having to start C Williams, 1.) C Williams is the best QB available on or of the team to start. 2 ) C Williams is the main reason B Johnson agreed to coach the Bears, and that is 💯 fact 3) As much as I think T Bagent could play and win in a B Johnson scheme, he isn’t capable of sustained success necessarily to win consistently across a full season and into the post season. 4.) FA addressed enough of the critical needs on the offensive and defensive sides of the ball that allows R Poles… Read more »

@ManGod We’re saying the same basic thing: that Johnson was hired to fix the offense. Ostensibly, fixing the offense requires QB1 to find his way to someplace between good and elite play this upcoming year, unless you want to entertain the idea that there is no law of nature that says the 2025 CHI team has to start Caleb at QB1, which I am happy to do but practically nobody else on here is up for. So, yes, sure, he was hired on the premise that he would figure out how to do whatever needs to be done, from a… Read more »
