Rookie quarterback Tyson Bagent is set to make his debut start this coming Sunday against the Las Vegas Raiders. This opportunity has arisen because Justin Fields is still unable to properly grip a football due to a dislocated thumb injury.
Nevertheless, there’s some positive news related to Fields’ injury, which was reported by National Insider Ian Rapoport on Sunday morning.
“One source said that he is starting to gain a little bit of grip, sort of able to grip a football so not totally ruled out for next week.”
Should Justin Fields rush his return?
The big question facing Justin Fields and his camp is whether he should rush his return to the field. According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, Fields is doing everything he can to come back quickly because he really wants to play. But the reality is that time isn’t on his side, especially in his current situation with the Chicago Bears. General manager, Ryan Poles, needs to have a clear understanding of Fields’ abilities and potential as they make crucial decisions about next year’s draft. The verdict is still out in my opinion but some believe there is nothing else he can do to change his future or lack thereof in Chicago.
While it would be exciting to see Fields return for a primetime matchup against the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday Night Football, it might be wiser to give him an extra week of rest and start his final campaign to secure his position in Chicago against the New Orleans Saints. Personally, as a fan, I’m eager to see him back on the field as soon as possible. However, if I were advising Fields, I might argue that he has already proven his toughness and resilience up to this point. There’s no doubt about his determination.

However, when he does return, he won’t just be auditioning for the Bears but also for other NFL teams in the league.
