The Chicago Bears won’t telegraph anything with the trade deadline approaching. Yet we know from experience that this regime has no problems being active on both sides of the fence. They’ve traded players away and acquired them this time of year. It isn’t possible to know for sure how things unfold, but there is a chance GM Ryan Poles could pull a few moves to shake things up before November 5th. Rumors have swirled about what could happen. Here is a breakdown of three possible deals that feel likely given the information available.
Chicago Bears RB Khalil Herbert to the Cowboys for a 6th round pick
Sometimes, players find themselves of no further use after a scheme change. Herbert was perfect for Luke Getsy’s outside-zone system the past two years. However, Shane Waldron runs more inside-zone, and Herbert isn’t that kind of runner. With D’Andre Swift taking over, the team hasn’t had much use for him. Minnesota had already tried trading for him, but the price was too steep. Dallas has the worst rushing attack in the league. Ezekiel Elliot is a shell of his former self. Herbert could give them a much-needed jolt.
OG Nate Davis to the Jets for a 6th round pick
It is beyond clear the Chicago Bears are done with Davis. His injury woes and lack of effort and intensity finally saw him benched in favor of Matt Pryor. He was a healthy scratch in London. His time in Chicago runs short. All they need is somebody willing to take a chance on him. New York employs Keith Carter, who was Davis’ offensive line coach in Tennessee. The Jets also lost starting guard Alijah Vera-Tucker to an injury last Sunday against Pittsburgh. They could use some credible depth. Davis can at least offer that.

2nd round pick to the Saints for EDGE Carl Granderson and a 5th round pick
New Orleans is in a bad way. After a 2-0 start this season, they’ve lost five in a row. Things are falling apart fast. One more loss may compel them to commence preparations for next year. The problem is they have a metric ton of salary cap issues. Granderson will count over $11 million against it next year. Even though they just signed him to an extension a year ago, this might be their best chance to get a high draft pick and clear some future cap space. Granderson is 27 years old, has 11.5 sacks and 87 pressures in his last 24 games, and is under contract through 2027. This is the type of player that screams Poles.
