Everyone knows the connection Matt Nagy shares with Andy Reid but it’s also key to note the impact the former Chiefs offensive coordinator had on a young Patrick Mahomes. Although their time together was short, Mahomes didn’t shy away when talking about current Bears head coach:
“Nagy was amazing with me and my transition into the NFL. Being able to relate to me, being able to go out there and let me play fast and be who I am.”
This isn’t the first time Mahomes has opened up about his former offensive coordinator either. That said, it is always good to hear a quarterback of the caliber of Mahomes, shower a head coach in praise. Especially when that head coach happens to represent the Chicago Bears.
Matt Nagy is just getting started in Chicago
Although the Chicago Bears vastly under-performed in 2019, there is still a lot to love about this team moving forward. A lot of that has to do with Matt Nagy. You can’t argue the culture he has built since taking the helm way back in 2018. Yes, his play calling was suspect. His decision making in critical moments was also far from perfect. But even with all that went wrong, he never lost the locker room. That is a testament to the greatness that Matt Nagy possess within him.
Again, there are still a lot of areas where Matt Nagy can improve upon. And given his recent decisions with the new coaching staff — it seems he knows that too. So as bad as it was last season, it does seem the Bears have the right guy leading the team. So that really just leaves one question to be asked:
