Off To A Disastrous Start, Bears Face A Must-Win Situation Against Denver

-

The Bears hope to avoid further embarrassment this Sunday when the Denver Broncos visit Soldier Field on the first day of October. Chicago’s season has gone from hopeful to tragic in only three games. The game this past Sunday was a complete failure on both sides of the ball. Offensively, Bears receivers failed to get open and as a unit produced a putrid 87 net passing yards.

The defense allowed TE Travis Kelce to roam free all game. Kelce led the Chiefs with 7 receptions on 8 targets for 69 yards and scored the Chiefs last touchdown. Is Matt Eberflus a Taylor Swift fan? How else can he explain allowing Kelce virtually uncovered the entire game?

The Bears defense did manage to get off the field on the first drive of the game. In their two previous games, they allowed a scoring drive on the first possession. Unfortunately, that was the end of the good news. Kansas City proceeded to score on every drive of the first half after that first stop and rolled out to a 34-0 halftime lead.

Eberflus is Out of Excuses

In almost every meeting with the press, coach Eberflus continueds to preach “we’ve got to get better.” The brutal truth is just the opposite. The team continues to play worse. Why does Eberflus and Poles draft cornerbacks adept at playing press-man coverage, only to play a soft zone? With no pressure coming from the front four, quarterbacks are having a field day picking apart that scheme.

This week’s game against Denver should be a blessing, but also a curse. Can Chicago finally break out of 13 game losing streak? Denver, after allowing more points in an NFL game in 6 decades would be, should be a get-well game. If this team somehow loses to a team that was just beaten by 50 points last week, it will be a complete disaster.

Denver has also started the season 0-3. If the Bears are hoping to turn this season into something positive, it has to start this week. If the losing continues, it should be time for head’s to start rolling at Halas Hall.

News and Notes

On Wednesday, the Bears signed cornerback Joejuan Williams to the 53-man active roster. He was signed off the Minnesota Vikings Practice Squad.

This Sunday’s game has a noon kickoff time and will be televised on CBS
