The Chicago Bears have endured one of the most frustrating seasons in their long history this year. While 5-9 is far from the worst record they’ve ever had, that isn’t the source of the anger. It is the fact they should be 8-6. However, thanks to head coach Matt Eberflus and his staff, the Bears made ugly NFL history this season by giving up three double-digit leads in the 4th quarter in losses to Denver, Detroit, and now Cleveland. Something like this happening once is a freak occurrence. It happening three times is a trend.
Fans are fed up. For all his prowess as a defensive play-caller, Eberflus hasn’t proven capable at anything else through his two years as head coach. He owns the longest losing streak in franchise history. Now, there are the three epic collapses. His hiring of Luke Getsy as offensive coordinator looks like a disaster. There isn’t much of an argument to keep him at this point outside of the work he’s done turning around the defense.
Here is where it gets interesting. Greg Gabriel is a former scouting director for the Bears. He has several connections around the league built over years of scouting. Recently, he contacted a friend who is a former team president and asked about the Eberflus situation. The response he got back was eye-opening.
Not only had the exec heard the coach wasn’t known for being the smartest guy, but he also had a longstanding reputation for being too conservative. Gabriel spilled it all on Barroom Network.

“He is just a low IQ coach, which was what I was told by people in Indy. Of course, he was also known there for never being aggressive. He is who he is and if the Bears don’t see it, they will really regret it.”
Matt Eberflus doesn’t have many supporters these days.
If these losses he’s suffered were just average tight losses where the team fell behind early and couldn’t catch up, that would be one thing. The fact his team gets out to such big leads, retreats into a shell, and falls apart so consistently is inexcusable. People forget it almost happened again in Minnesota. Justin Fields fumbled twice in the 4th quarter, allowing the Vikings to move ahead 10-9. If the Bears hadn’t managed a last-second field goal, it would be four collapses instead of three.
The fact that the former president said he hopes the Bears keep Matt Eberflus because of how bad he is says it all. Maybe the Bears will ignore the noise and keep him one more year. GM Ryan Poles has insisted he remains a firm believer in Eberflus. Players are still playing hard. They know they’re good enough to win a lot of these games. It is a matter of figuring out how to close. There are three games left. Maybe if Eberflus can squeeze out a couple more wins, the calls for his head will quiet.
Based on this account, it probably shouldn’t.

Hahaha! 🤣 I never work with people who don’t listen or pay attention. I used to be stubborn, now, I understand it’s a free world. Everyone is just as free to fail, as succeed.

While critics abound overall the Bears are becoming a competitive team again. They are not done with their rebuild yet but are getting closer. 2024 will be a crucial year to determine the necessary pieces to become a significant challenge in the league. No doubt the offense needs the most work. Starting with the coaching, the game plans, and utilizing the talent they have.
I like the coach and the players seem to as well. The Bears are getting better and they have kept their class in the process. Taking Wright over Jalen Carter was a good example. Stay the course for another year. Keep coach and Fields, get some players and roll, baby.
A low IQ coach? Never heard a comment like that before.
