NFL Scout Provides Interesting Assessment of Justin Fields and Caleb Williams

-

In a recent episode of the BFR Podcast by Sports Mockery, Dave and Ficky welcomed WGN’s Jarrett Payton onto the show to discuss various topics regarding the Chicago Bears. In the conversation, Jarrett shared valuable insights he received from a reputable NFL scout with a rich history in evaluating exceptional NFL draft classes. Specifically, Jarrett shared the scout’s evaluation of Justin Fields and discussed the potential upside if the Bears continue to support him as their quarterback.

“I could win a Super Bowl with him (Justin Fields).. he wasn’t handled right.”

The evaluation of Justin Fields was intriguing, but what caught my attention even more was the NFL Scout’s comments about USC Quarterback Caleb Williams.

“Watching Caleb Williams film is like watching Patrick Mahomes from Texas Tech.. just not as reckless.”

Ryan Poles faces a challenging decision

Ryan Poles is faced with a tough decision here, and it’s not an easy one. The conversation highlighted a valid argument from Jarrett, emphasizing that Justin Fields might flourish on a different team. Jarrett wouldn’t be surprised if that happens. As Jarrett pointed out, selecting a quarterback in the draft is like gambling in Las Vegas – you can either win big or lose big.

That’s just the nature of dealing with one of the most demanding positions in professional sports. Alternatively, Caleb Williams could truly be a 1:1 talent. Comparisons between Williams and Patrick Mahomes have been made before, and they may continue all the way until April. He is just that good of a prospect.

Subscribe to the BFR Youtube channel and ride shotgun with Dave and Ficky as they break down Bears football like nobody else.

Should the Chicago Bears build a super team around Justin Fields? Jarrett Payton joins the show!

Overall, our discussion extended beyond the topic of quarterbacks but having Jarrett on the podcast was truly a fun time. If interested, you can watch the full episode by clicking on the video below or listen to it on Apple, Spotify, or your preferred podcast platform.

Fields had poor coaching and talent his first two years. Because of poor coaching the Bears could have finished 10-7, yet still improved over the 3 win season that was a complete tear down of the roster. He improved each season in spite of the poor coaching & play calling. Drafting QB with #1 pick guarantees nothing. Most find a place in the NFL pecking order, but few have gone on to win the SB. Fields is a proven starter with a high ceiling. Bryce Young? TERRIBLE first year! Williams stumbled against good teams, and is said to have the… Read more »

Rocketrider, ball security can still be taught, timing, anticipation, throwing guys open, processing reads, much tougher, and fields isn’t good at any of it.

Scooby….just 1 thing. You do understand CW had over 30 fumbles in 30 games right? Did you watch any fumbling lowlights of CW. Many time guys barely touched him and the ball was on the ground. Just saying. One of my major points of concern.

CW seems to be likely to be on the Bears. However, are the Bears getting a new center or not. That seemed to be a big elephant in the room.

If the Bears can get an offer like they did last year, or better, keep building the team foundation and let Fields have another year. If he proves he can be the guy, then you can keep him long term. If not, then the next QB has a great foundation to support him. IMO
