NFL Expert Predicts This QB Will End Up In Chicago

-

There have been a lot of names tossed around when it comes to a new signal caller possibly joining the Chicago Bears quarterback room. This latest prediction will be a rather familiar one for Bears fans.

Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton.

Newton had many analysts begging the Bears to make a move for him at the trading deadline last season.

Trevor Sikkema of The NFL Draft Network dropped an article today predicting eight destinations for eight veteran QBs in 2020. Here is what he had to say in regards to the potential marriage between Cam Newton and the Chicago Bears:

“With a new owner, a new head coach, a new offensive coordinator and just an overall new way of doing things in Carolina, all signs point to them making a move for a new quarterback as the Panthers press restart on an old regime. That means that long-time franchise passer Cam Newton will likely be bought out of the final year of his deal — or traded.
Newton’s throwing shoulder has been beaten up over the years — his body has in general. He just hasn’t looked like his old self as of late. But there is a chance that the former MVP could have a few more championships pushes in him. If you get some of that back on a team like the Chicago Bears, you get a signal-caller with a lot of offensive weapons in place and a defense to always keep him in games.”

Cam Newton would be risky

Even if the Bears did pull the trigger (which I think is unlikely) by making a move to land the former MVP, it would come at a huge risk. It was obvious that Cam Newton was playing through injury but who knows how Cam would perform moving forward in the rest of career. It’s a mystery at this point. The argument can be made he’s had a long period of rest which could result in the Bears possibly getting a rejuvenated Newton. But again — we have no idea of knowing which version of ‘Cam” we would end up getting.

The Bears front office would also have to swallow their ego and bench Trubisky which I doubt they’d be willing to do. Either way, a move like this would easily rock the NFL landscape. The energy in Chicago would be electric. That is the power/charisma a player of Cam Newton’s caliber would bring to a city that has been longing for success at the quarterback position for what seems like decades.
