New Report Sparks Rumors of Bears Reunion With Star Pass Rusher

-

The 2025 NFL offseason is in full swing, with the next major events being the NFL Combine and free agency. Pending free agents can begin negotiating with other teams through their agents on March 10, with signings and trades becoming official starting March 12.

The Bears are expected to focus on strengthening both sides of the ball, particularly in the trenches. One key priority is adding another pass rusher to complement Montez Sweat. While there has been much speculation about a potential reunion with star edge rusher Khalil Mack, NFL insider Jason La Canfora reports that the possibility truly can’t be ruled out.

This latest report adds more fuel to the growing rumors that the Bears could bring Mack back to Chicago, as speculation has been building for weeks.

Should the Bears pursue a reunion with Khalil Mack?

I’m fully on board with this move. At 33, Mack still has a few strong seasons left. Bringing him back makes too much sense—not just for nostalgia but for practical reasons:

  • He previously played under Dennis Allen and fits well in a 4-3 defense.
  • He can relieve some of the pressure on Montez Sweat.
  • His age makes him a prime candidate for a short-term contract while the Bears develop a long-term replacement such as Austin Booker.
  • He will be motivated by the unfinished business in Chicago, especially after the success of 2018.
  • He was one of the league’s best run defenders last season, an area where the Bears struggled (bottom five in run defense).
  • He is still a productive pass rusher, having 23 total sacks the past two seasons.

With ample cap space, the Bears could sign Mack while still having plenty of flexibility to add other key players in free agency.

Great pass rushers usually are not available, because they can affect the game much more than any other position. We can understand why Garrett’s price is so dang high.

The Steelers and a few other teams have schooled weaker programs about getting rid of players “a year too soon rather than a year too late”.

Does anybody remember how Robert Quinn worked out for Chicago? Wasn’t very long ago. What is your guarantee that Mack is not today’s Robert Quinn? Are you asking why is Mack available?

Well, Everett and Walker give the Bears 11 mil more, cut Bates sign Mack and Dalman and the old guard from Detroit. still leave you with 40 mil to sign draft picks and resign players and add a few more good players.

Seen that movie already. No thanks. Let’s not have an older guy taking snaps from guys who need to develop. Draft em and play em. If they can’t play, don’t draft em.

Bubba…Carter was an afterthought in the SB. All the other lineman played better. Re-watch the game. Carter was slow off the snap many times and was handled by Smith all game. Everyone rips Poles for not drafting O lineman but when he does take one people bitch that he should have taken Carter. Cant have it both ways. Just like the KC fans whining about their OLine. Kelce wiffed on multiple blocks, was slow off the snap more than once. Lazy effort on his part. Mahomes throws were way off target even when he had time. They blame the Oline.… Read more »

Two articles in a row where rumors are presented as such just to serve as topics of conversation and not labeled as “new information from league insiders confirms”? How’d we get so lucky to have Dave writing two posts in a row? I could get used to this. I think Barry is right, Lambert must have caught a glimpse of himself in the mirror and spent the night in a bottle.
