Multiple Insiders Reveal A Favorite Has Finally Emerged For Justin Fields

-

For weeks, fans have wondered when Justin Fields gets traded. After watching free agency start with nothing happening, those questions have shifted to even if he’ll be traded. The running belief is GM Ryan Poles has postponed any such move until he has all the necessary data on the 2024 draft quarterback class. That won’t conclude until the end of March when pro days and private visits take place. Until then, Fields is stuck in limbo. However, there might finally be some momentum building towards a conclusion.

Rumblings have started to emerge about a favorite landing spot for Fields. The first whisper came from Andrew Fillipponi, who covers the Pittsburgh Steelers for 93.7 The Fan. He has it on good authority there is some smoke around that team readying a push to acquire the young quarterback.

Pittsburgh signed Russell Wilson before the start of free agency, securing a starter for 2024. That said, it was only a one-year deal. Things got more complicated when they traded Kenny Pickett to Philadelphia. Suddenly the team has no backup option behind Wilson. Fields is a similar type of quarterback, so it makes perfect sense for him to be the #2 guy. Benjamin Allbright of KOA Colorado supported the recent rumor, even stating when it is likely to happen.

Justin Fields to Pittsburgh always made sense.

The organization is in no position to draft somebody. Wilson will help them win next season, but they have no depth and no long-term option. Fields can potentially be both. If Filliponi is correct, the Bears would receive the 98th overall pick in the deal, which is at the bottom of the 3rd round. While not the large return many fans hoped for, it’s still a decent selection considering the lack of other options. It would get Chicago back to five picks and give them four in the top 100. Perhaps Poles could then use some maneuvering to add more.

If this is how things play out, it should serve both sides well. Chicago gets another draft pick to help continue building their roster. Justin Fields gets to join a new organization with a fresh start, one that hasn’t had a losing season in almost two decades. It should be a win-win. The only sad part is the two sides never found a way to make it work together. This business can be cruel sometimes. Either way, it appears we finally have a firm date to circle for when this happens.

The media has been marketing Justin Fields all preseason. They say the Bears are looking for a good trade partner but Ryan Poles never said he was looking for a trade for Justin Fields. It’s all hype by the talking heads.

Now they say he has no market value but none has been sought. He will be the starter for the Chicago Bears next year and who knows what the media will say about that.

IF the Bears are indeed going to pass up the opportunity to trade for a massive haul of draft picks and players in order to roll the dice on a QB from this year’s top three of “can’t miss” players, I’d really like to see a competition for the starting job. I’ve said this elsewhere, but I don’t want anyone walking in the door thinking he’s a starter. One way for the Bears and Poles to make certain that any new arrival understands the necessity of working hard, being humble, accepting coaching, and gaining the respect of his team mates… Read more »

Dr. Melhus- You keep stating the obvious that basically everyone knows! But is the obvious fun? Is the obvious going to make everybody feel warm and fuzzy? I feel you know the answer to both those questions because you are a doctor!
