Albert Breer, who writes occasionally for Sports Illustrated, was speaking recently. His comments caused a stir within Bears Twitter. And every writer that wants to see the Bears make wholesale changes immediately ran with their stories about Breer’s words.
Breer is a national writer, not a Chicago insider. Several people closer to the team commented that his comments were not fact-based. Searching the internet, Breer’s last article for Sports Illustrated was published on November 22nd. There was no mention of Chicago in the article. After much searching, I found a video on the Sports Illustrated website. Breer was answering reader’s questions in a video mailbag. The last question he answered was about the Bears. He started his answer by saying, “I think.”
He “thinks” coach Eberflus will not be retained. He said he has heard that the new President of operations, Kevin Warren was to be more involved.
On Monday of this week, Brad Biggs and Jarrett Payton, 2 highly respected members of the Chicago media, were questioned about Breer’s comments. Both came away with the same take. Kevin Warren and Ryan Poles have an excellent relationship. Both agreed that they had not heard anything in Halas Hall suggesting Warren was remotely considering terminating Poles.
Subscribe to the BFR Youtube channel and ride shotgun with Dave and Ficky as they break down Bears football like nobody else.
Ryan Poles has done a tremendous job finding talent and rebuilding the roster. No GM has a perfect record in that regard, and Poles has missed on a few choices. Overall, the roster is much improved. If you expect perfection, it never happens, and as a fan, you will never be satisfied.
@Dr. Melhus and @David and @34Forever. Never read Peter Principle but it’s something I noticed. Read Art of War multiple times and adhere to it on multiple levels. Good idea about Eberflus, never seen it, but it can be pitched and there’s always a first time. Complex problems (Bears) need innovative and sometimes classic answers. Like the players, the coaches can either buying into change, adaptability, flexibility, or not. Every company has to do that when competition is evolving and changing. It should be easy to talk to the entire team: Fact: Bears are NOT in first place and running… Read more »
@Sam K. I wonder if you had a problem with the way your cab were being driven, is it the steering wheel’s problem or the cab driver?
(Getting rid of coaches and QB).
Albert Breer makes himself look bad by writing his “some people are saying” stories. Really? Aren’t we smart enough not to fall for that crap?
I have no problem seeing things to find fault with any player (maybe it’s the Nick Saban in me). But I have no problem finding fault with coaches, executives or writers either. None of should have problems with finding fault. But try to be fair and logical.
Otherwise we can all go back to the high school media platforms and talk about each other behind everyone’s backs.
Personally, I like The Old Man and the Sea, but I’m super lazy.
@Dr.Melhausz if you’re going to recommend a book I’d go with the Art of War by Sun Tzu instead. 😁
