More Will Campbell Rumblings Are Tilting In The Bears’ Favor

-

Plenty of Chicago Bears fans like the idea of Will Campbell at #10. The LSU left tackle has some of the best tape in the class and is proven against top competition. A sticking point for many has been his average measurable, specifically his arm length. He measured 33 inches at most, which is considered shorter than preferred for an NFL tackle. Even so, plenty of people, including Adam Schefter, think it’s unlikely Campbell slips enough to give Ryan Poles a chance to grab him.

However, the recent buzz suggests the odds aren’t as bleak as you’d think. Albert Breer of the MMQB had an update suggesting the length concerns haven’t gone away. Many in the league still think it’s a problem.

LSU OT Will Campbell’s arm length and narrow shoulders (for a tackle) have some questioning whether he’s a left tackle or a tackle at all.

This was quickly reinforced by Bill Zimmerman of Windy City Gridiron. He’s been reaching out to contacts in the league for weeks about various players. From what he understands, if Campbell clears one particular team in the first few picks of the draft, the chances of him getting to the Bears go way up.

Johnson knows the Bears need an LT, and they need one this year. The problem could be, can they get one at 10?

Will Campbell would be the ideal guy, but will he slide that far? There’s plenty of buzz that he would be the Patriots’ selection at four, but I would say, if the Patriots decide to go another direction, there’s a decent chance he could slide all the way to 10.

Will Campbell getting to #10 isn’t crazy at all.

What Zimmerman was is true. Everybody knows the New England Patriots need offensive line help. They did add some proven veterans like Morgan Moses and Garrett Bradbury to the starting lineup. Still, they don’t have a true fixture at left tackle. Their two options are either Vederian Lowe or second-year man Caedan Wallace. They may not like that idea, making Campbell an obvious choice. That said, the new head coach, Mike Vrabel, is a defensive guy. He may wish to focus on that side of the ball.

Should that happen, the path is way clearer for Will Campbell to drop. Jacksonville (#5) could take him, but they have Walker Little, who is a solid player. Las Vegas (#6) has Kolton Miller, so that’s a no. New York (#7) just drafted Olu Fashanu last year, so it won’t be there. Carolina (#8) has Ikem Ekwonu. New Orleans (#9) drafted Taliese Fuaga last year. So unless one of those teams is willing to take Campbell as a guard, getting to the Bears at #10 is plenty realistic.

SS Told YA, Cairo’s game winning FG against the second-string Packers would be a two-edged sword. And it is! Even when the Bears win, they lose. It put them at the edge of the precipice looking down.

Instead, trade up, up, and away for DE Abdul or RB Jeanty! That is 25 times. Now do it and bring respect, if not glory, back to the Chicago Bears.

@Dr. Melhus I know this is off-brand for me, but it’s 1) Jeanty, 2) Warren, then 3) top offensive guard. Whoever falls, really, or their top-ranked offensive guard. I’d be thrilled if they took Shedeur Sanders there but obviously that’s not happening.
