More Insiders Confirm Matt Eberflus’ Seat Is Rapidly Heating Up

-

No Chicago Bears head coach has ever been under this much fire so early in his tenure. That should tell you how fast things have gone off the rails for Matt Eberflus. People were willing to stay patient after a 3-14 season in 2022. They knew the team was rebuilding and would need another off-season to improve. However, after a 0-3 start to 2023, with all three games being blowouts, fans are losing faith that the man knows what he’s doing. Everything about the Bears’ operation looks bland, uninspiring, and lacking in discipline. That is wild to think about, considering his supposed H.I.T.S principle.

Rumblings have already begun that his job is in danger. If things don’t at least stabilize, he might be only the second Bears coach of the Super Bowl era to get fired after two seasons. Chicago hosts the Denver Broncos next, another winless team. One that gave up 70 points last week. If the Bears can’t win this game, it will be a glaring sign that Eberflus has lost control of the team. Then, it becomes a matter of how hot his seat gets. From what Jeremy Fowler and Dan Graziano of ESPN say, it’s already starting to simmer.

Fowler: At least mild pressure. It’s still early enough in the year where any hot-seat buzz is more of a low hum, but the coming weeks figure to be big for Eberflus and Chicago, considering last year’s Bears were more competitive than what they have shown so far this year. Chicago brass knew this rebuild would be a process, so perhaps that buys time for the coach who’s trying to establish a culture. Selling that vision requires modest progress eventually.

Overall, the expectation is more jobs will open than last year’s slate of five.

Graziano: Yeah, Chicago’s certainly a spot to watch. The Bears haven’t won a game since before last Halloween.”

Matt Eberflus sounds like a man with few answers.

His answers on what the Bears need to do to stop this slide remain unchanged. They must huddle together, challenge each other, and fight hard. All the while, not much has changed in their operation. Each week, it’s the same thing. The offense can’t get past their mental mistakes. The defense can’t pressure the quarterback. Eberflus and the coaching staff aren’t providing answers to these problems> This is often where the blame game starts. Players blame the coaches for not helping more with their scheming. Coaches blame the lack of talent and execution.

It’s precisely what happened to Trestman in 2014, and that Bears team was more talented than this one. This should give you an idea of how much trouble Matt Eberflus is in. His quarterback is frighteningly easy to defend. His defense can’t stop anybody and has mounting injuries. Even good head coaches would struggle with this situation. Eberflus means well, but the guy has lost 13 games in a row. Good coaches don’t do that. If he can’t deliver what probably will be the easiest game on his schedule this season, his time in Chicago is over.
