Sometimes it pays to be in the right place at the right time. Earlier today, Brandon Hiatt, host of the “Chicago Sports Podcast,” asked me to join the show live on YouTube. We were talking about the current state of the Bears Stadium and possible directions Ryan Poles may go in free agency with the additional cap space that became available after the Bears released Eddie Jackson and Cody Whitehair. You can catch a replay of the show here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qrMGasnPXxk
Misty McMichael and Brandon often co-host the show, but she was at the hospital with McMichael on this day. Thursday evening Mongo was brought to the hospital and admitted to the ICU. Early thoughts were McMichael was suffering from pneumonia.
Thankfully, after the doctors examined McMichael, the problem was not pneumonia. But he is suffering from a urinary tract infection.
During my conversation with Brandon, Mrs. McMichael called into the show to provide an update. The doctors have indicated Steve McMichael is responding to treatment, and if all goes well, they are confident he can be released within two weeks. If you go to the link above and advance to 1:24:30, you can hear Misty provide the update.
Subscribe to the BFR Youtube channel and ride shotgun with Dave and Ficky as they break down Bears football like nobody else.
Before McMichael received word he was a finalist for the Hall of Fame last August, the McMichael’s had drawn up Do Not Resuscitate paperwork. The papers were torn up after the family got the call from Canton notifying Mongo that he was a finalist. The call couldn’t have come at a better time. Just after the DNR papers were torn up, McMichael spent a few weeks in the ICU for a life-threatening illness.
The enshrinement ceremony for the Hall of Fame class 2024 will be on August 3rd in Canton, Ohio. I speak for everyone when I say Steve McMichael deserves his day in Canton.
Prayers up!
Great news! Praying he gets to be there!
