Michael Vick Plans To Urge Deshaun Watson To Join The Bears

-

Deshaun Watson is making his intentions crystal clear. A week after he reportedly requested a trade from the Houston Texans, he removed any picture or mention of the organization from his social media platforms. It’s obvious the 25-year old quarterback is fully committed to getting himself out of Houston. It comes down to whether the Texans will eventually grant his wish. Then it becomes a matter of where he ends up. Michael Vick has a few ideas.

People might be confused by that, but they shouldn’t be. Vick is close with Watson. He was the quarterback’s childhood idol and the two have shared a relationship for some time. So when he offers an opinion on the quarterback, it’s worth noting. That is why his statement on Watson’s future in an interview with Nick Wright of FS1 was so fascinating.

Especially for Chicago Bears fans.

It’s never a bad thing when somebody like Vick who has Watson’s ear is putting in a good word for the Bears. He’s not wrong either. Chicago has a win-now roster in place. Their defense is still solid with talent at every level. They’ve got some promising young pieces on offense too like Darnell Mooney and Cole Kmet. Presuming Allen Robinson returns, that would give Watson plenty to work with.

Then there is the fact he’d be able to work with Matt Nagy. He is known for being a players coach. Highly personable. On top of that, he’s built a staff loaded with quarterback-friendly assistants like John DeFilippo and Bill Lazor. Watson would probably see that group as a breath of fresh air after years of Bill O’Brien.

Michael Vick knows a thing or two about Watson’s situation

He was the superstar in Atlanta for years. While he was the franchise, it never felt like they did everything in their power to help him succeed. Then when he went to Philadelphia under Andy Reid? That changed. It’s worth mentioning that Vick and Nagy know each other. They worked together for four seasons from 2009 to 2012 when the head coach was still an assistant with the Eagles.

That familiarity may help him convey exactly what Watson would be getting into with the Bears. Sometimes connections can mean everything when trades are involved. Look at the Detroit Lions. Their new GM Brad Holmes came from the Rams and he just got done trading Matthew Stafford to L.A. Prior ties can often tip the balance. Michael Vick putting in a good word for Chicago would only mean good things.

All other signs have indicated Watson isn’t opposed to the Bears.

His bigger goal is simply getting out of Houston. There is no specific preference at this point. If Vick helps change that by getting the Bears higher on his list? This could make a decisive offseason in altering the future of this franchise. They’ll need all the help they can get because many other teams are in hot pursuit. It comes down to when the Texans are ready to face reality and start the process.
