Justin Fields had a far better season in 2022 after his rough rookie year. His passer rating improved by 12 points, and he finished with the second-most rushing yards by a quarterback in a single season in NFL history. Yes, the Chicago Bears finished 3-14, but how anybody can blame him for that is short-sighted beyond belief. Yet it hasn’t stopped several people from saying he may not have what it takes to play at a championship level in this league. This stems primarily from his pedestrian passing yardage total. One person tired of hearing this ongoing criticism is Micah Parsons.
The superstar pass rusher for the Dallas Cowboys is good friends with the Bears quarterback. They became closer during the pre-draft process in 2021. Fields actually had one of his best games last year against Parsons’ defense. The two have a mutual respect for each other. So when somebody stated there was no way the addition of wide receiver D.J. Moore would help the Bears quarterback evolve as a passer, Parsons took issue with it and fired back on Twitter.
Micah Parsons makes a fair point.
In the three seasons before joining the Philadelphia Eagles, A.J. Brown averaged 998 yards and eight touchdowns. Stefon Diggs averaged 1,000 yards and seven touchdowns before joining Buffalo. Moore has averaged 1,079 yards and five touchdowns. He absolutely should be mentioned in the same category as the other two, especially since he had far worse quarterbacks to work with. Brown had Ryan Tannehill in Tennessee. Diggs had Kirk Cousins and Case Keenum.
Moore was stuck with Teddy Bridgewater, Sam Darnold, and Baker Mayfield. If Fields is as capable as Micah Parsons believes, then Moore should be the key to unlocking his full potential as Brown did for Jalen Hurts and Diggs for Josh Allen. This isn’t even accounting for the improvements (on paper) they made to the offensive line with Nate Davis and Darnell Wright. One thing is for sure, a lot of people will eat crow if Fields takes a giant leap forward as a passer this season. Parsons has his popcorn ready.

I agree with Jerry 12-5 and deep playoff run.8-0 at home, losing to Chiefs, Chargers, Packers, Vikings and Lions on road.
Bottom line, Chicago is my #1 sleeper team this year. Very easy to see them have a Cinderella Season in 2023. What makes this even scarier is that this team will beat GB wk #1, and they will beat Minnesota in wk #6 to open 2-0 in the division. Given that it is typically normal for the division teams to split the games, after facing Detroit in wk #11, the Bears may very well be in first place in the division early. Based on their schedule, the definite improvements along both O & D lines, I look for Chicago not… Read more »
Carlitopen. — “All he has to do is. . .” all those things that separate a Superbowl-winning QB from a draft “bust.” Want proof? Fire up a video of the last Superbowl. The KC Chiefs were losing and Patrick Mahomes knew he had to get back to basics,, in the 2nd half — and do everything you listed below. The quick passes started; mixed in with a few Pacheco runs; and more chain-moving quick shots to JuJu Smith-Schuster. The difference between Fields and Mahomes is that Patrick cannot be shaken; and he’s willing to trust his guys, and spread the… Read more »
I’d love to see Justin Fields become a successful NFL QB. He seems like a great teammate. But he still has not consistently delivered the ball to all three levels of the field, with accuracy, poise, timing and anticipation (Have you ever heard the names: Zach Wilson or Trey Lance?) Don’t fool yourself; the only thing that counts with Ryan Poles is the won-lost record. And, that’s how it should be. Fields either becomes the next Trevor Lawrence this year — or he joins the Wilson and Lance group). Along those lines: Which team will end up with the better… Read more »
JF, was a very good passer in çollege. His rookie year was a wash because of Nagy did more to set JF back than anything else. In all fairness this is just his second season. All he has to do is work on his footwork, get the ball out quicker and stop looking for the long ball all the time, master the short and intermediate passing game, take what the defense gives you and know where you are going with the ball pre snap.
