Apparently, officials from the NFL and the Pro Football Hall of Fame are enraged this news was leaked. Late last night the SunTimes released a story by Jason Lieser, breaking the news. Steve McMichael and Devin Hester were elected to the Hall of Fame. Lieser also added the name of Julius Peppers, who played for Chicago from 2010 through 2013. All three were officially announced a short time ago.
The announcement revealing the Class of 2024 was carried live on NFL Network and simulcast on CBS happened just moments ago.
Yesterday, former teammate and fellow Hall of Famer Richard Dent, called him at his home to break the news. Steve McMichael is officially a member of the Hall of Fame, Class of 2024. Steve’s wife, Misty McMichael, was at his side when McMichael received the news they had been waiting years to hear. Shortly thereafter, Misty boarded a flight to Las Vegas to be present for tonight’s Awards Ceremony to represent on behalf of Mongo.
This is truly a great day for McMichael. Only Richard Dent had more sacks in a Bears uniform. McMichael finished his career in Chicago with 92.5 sacks. Dent registered 124.5 sacks for the Bears from 1983 – 1993. Dent was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2011.

I remember what a big deal it was being upset by the Dolphins on MNF in Miami ending the hopes of topping (15-1) the undefeated ’72 Dolphins (14-0) team. And then they turned around and dropped the Super Bowl Shuffle. I also remember how big winning the… Read more »
1) Shows the importance of the 3 tech DT, even before the Tampa-2 was a thing.
2) “Yesterday, a former teammate of McMichaels, ….” Who? Be a reporter, Erik. Give us the relevant information. Even if it’s an unheralded pal like Henry Wachter (my guess, no idea if it was him or not), please fill in this blank for your readers.
3) Congrats to mongo. Well deserved, and I’m glad he got to hear about it while he is alive.
Life is good, congrats to Mongo.
