Matt Nagy Has Reportedly Been Informed He Will Be Fired

-

Chicago Bears fans and media seem to be in agreement at this stage that Matt Nagy will likely be fired after this season. The smoke has steadily built towards this for the past several weeks with it becoming clear the team was regressing significantly from last season. Now facing their first losing record since 2017 and the offense still a mess, the justification to fire Nagy is stronger than ever.

What people can’t say for certain is whether ownership has reached that decision yet. This seems to have been put to rest from the unlikeliest of insiders. Former NFL quarterback Boomer Esiason was on his radio program for WFAN in New York with cohost Gregg Giannotti. With the subject of head coaches on the hot seat a talking point, Nagy’s name came up. It was here Esiason said with firm confidence that the Bears head coach has already been informed Sunday in Minnesota will be his last with the team.

This comes in addition to various other reports hinting at the same.

Matt Nagy will face the music on January 10th, regardless of the outcome of this game. It’ll be rather fitting if he ends up winning. Not only would it be the third time in four attempts he’ll have beaten the Vikings in their own building, but he might do it with Justin Fields at quarterback. The rookie he pounded the table for going back several months. The great irony in all of this is Fields might end up being a true franchise quarterback, but arrived too late to save the man that wanted him most.

This is why the NFL can be such a cruel business. Nagy was hired to finally solve the Bears’ ongoing problem on offense. Especially at quarterback. He made several attempts with three different guys in Mitch Trubisky, Nick Foles, and Andy Dalton. None of them worked. That forced him to play Fields earlier than desired and the rookie struggled. This gave critics all the ammunition they needed to declare he wasn’t the right man for the job.

Now the McCaskey family can’t defend him anymore. They will begin searching for his replacement at some point over the next week or two.
