Matt Eberflus Gave Ryan Poles The Perfect Gift To Celebrate First Draft

-

The 2022 NFL draft was an exciting one for the Chicago Bears. For fans, it was because the team went in with six picks and came out with 11. That meant they witnessed a flurry of trades during the action. For GM Ryan Poles, it was the biggest milestone of his NFL career. He began as a scout with Kansas City back in 2009. Over the next decade, he climbed their ranks, helping the organization become the class of the AFC. His dream was to one day run his own team. The emotions flowing through him during that draft were hard to describe. So Matt Eberflus decided to celebrate.

On the latest episode of 1920 Football Drive, fans got an inside look at how the draft unfolded for the team. Then after its conclusion, Eberflus was spotted walking into the war room carrying a paper bag. Here, he announced his intention to congratulate the 36-year-old on completing his first-ever draft to resounding applause. The best part might be the gift itself.

After such an intense three days, any man could use a drink.

Matt Eberflus gave his new partner of Jefferson’s rye whiskey by the look of it. That means the GM is a man of old school tastes. While not a top seller these days, it was huge in the early 1900s. With Poles being somewhat of a throwback personality in many ways, it makes perfect sense he’d prefer his alcohol that way. Kudos to the head coach for learning his tastes and taking the time to get him that gift.

Eberflus had every reason to be happy. Thanks to Poles, the Bears defense suddenly has some exciting young talent to work with. Cornerback Kyler Gordon and safety Jaquan Brisker were taken in the 2nd round, while defensive end Dominique Robinson arrived in the 5th. All three are said to have significant upside. If they develop properly, the defense will be in great shape for years to come.
