Massive Setback for Bears: Star Player Out Before Jaguars Game

-

On Monday, it was reported that Bears star safety Jaquan Brisker suffered a concussion during the game against the Panthers. The injury occurred on the play where Brisker forced a fumble.

It was a tough sequence to watch, but surprisingly, Jaquan Brisker didn’t leave the game or even head to the blue medical tent. Bears GM Ryan Poles confirmed that all concussion protocols were followed during Sunday’s game. Brisker’s symptoms didn’t show up until Monday, which led to some speculation that he might return later in the week if he cleared concussion protocol. However, Poles has now confirmed that Brisker will be out for this week’s game in London.

The Bears will certainly feel Brisker’s absence.

Brisker has been having an outstanding season. Through five games, he’s recorded 23 solo tackles, 1 interception, 2 pass breakups, and 1 forced fumble. He’s a key player in the Bears defense and one of the hardest-hitting safeties in the league. Backup safety Jonathan Owens is expected to step in for Brisker and should be able to hold down this spot until Brisker returns after the bye week. However, this is a pretty nice break for the Jaguars and quarterback Trevor Lawrence. Fortunately, the Bears secondary is still stacked with talent and should still be able to create problems for Jacksonville’s offense.

This is the third straight year Brisker has missed time due to injuries. The guy plays hard, but it is taking a toll on him. I hope he doesn’t end up like Dave Duerson.

I hate to say this, but we need to keep an eye out for safeties.

Word keeps surfacing that he could pass concussion protocol and catch a flight but everyone involved should reject that idea. Don’t need to be hearing any tragic news many years down the line.

@JFK was AFK: I agree. Tremble played it badly, but the optics of flagging a player who is getting medical attention are pretty bad.

: Yes, it’s a bit sensationalistic. Erik can’t help it, he wants the clicks.

Crazy thing about that hit, Tremble lowered his head and used the crown to initiate the hit. Brisker was actually going in with his shoulder and got the side of his helmet hit. Prolly should have had a flag thrown, but knocking yourself out is punishment enough. Let’s hope JO can step up.
