Latest Caleb Williams Rumor May Upset Fans

-

Caleb Williams had a solid rookie season, but before he even took the field, one of the big debates was what jersey number he would wear in Chicago. In high school, he wore No. 18, but at USC, he switched to No. 13. When the Bears traded for veteran star wide receiver Keenan Allen—who has worn No. 13 throughout his NFL career—Williams opted to let the veteran keep his number and chose to wear No. 18 in his rookie season.

Now, with the season over and speculation that the Bears and Allen may part ways, rumors have surfaced that Williams could switch back to No. 13. Fueling this speculation is a recent Topps commercial featuring Williams alongside Jim McMahon, who acts as the Topps’ VP of Player Development. In the commercial, McMahon teaches Williams how to properly sign his football cards. Notably, some of Williams autographed cards feature the No. 18, while others have the No. 13, raising questions about a potential jersey switch.

Is Williams waiting to see if Allen returns to Chicago? Possibly. Allen has expressed interest in running it back with the Bears next season. However, if Williams does decide to change numbers after just one year, it could create complications for fans who have already purchased his No. 18 jersey. In that case, Williams might need to buy out the remaining stock of No. 18 jerseys, and hopefully, fans would have the option to exchange their old ones for his new number.

Dave, that was Lambert-esque work with this gem. WOW, so upsetting and controversial.

Just have “Tomczak” put on the back and you now have a classic.

What is the issue here? The same fans who cheerfully will pay 10% more for tickets after an atrocious season should have no problem coughing up the money for another jersey. Who knows? Perhaps in a century or so the earlier one might be a collectors item…

Why trade out. Still have a Jordan 45 jersey. They are hard to come by. The #18 would still be his rookie #

I hope he does switch back to #13, it’s more interesting unique. 18 is boring. Now what some quarterback should do is to start with #1, then add 1 for every year they play. NFL merchandising would like this as well.
