It’s not fun being Matt Nagy right now. While his Chicago Bears are 3-1, nobody is taking the team seriously. Why should they? This team was two crazy comebacks and a goal line stop from being 0-4 after their putrid showing on Sunday against the Indianapolis Colts. The primary culprit throughout all of this has been Nagy’s offense.
Through four games, the unit once again ranks near the bottom of the league at 24th in total yards. Everything seems like a struggle. Not even a quarterback switch has solved the problem. Mitch Trubisky still hasn’t shown improvement. Now Nick Foles took his turn looking inaccurate and ineffective. At some point, people may start to recognize a common denominator.
One person who seemed to take some delight in Nagy’s pain was former Bears guard Kyle Long. Over the course of the game, he sent out several tweets that were thinnly-veiled shots at his former coach. Either mocking his Coach of the Year award in 2018 or how people pegged him for an offensive genius.
He was the coach of the year https://t.co/4BodmMOlHv

I wonder what Nagy had to say to his team at halftime, and if he likes the result he is seeing in the 3rd quarter

All too well 😂😂😂😂 https://t.co/JMWg5vw5BO

He wasn’t alone though. Long’s former teammate Ted Larsen piped up as well, insinuating that Nagy is more interested in building a fun atmosphere than he is a good football team.
I feel like they really need a dance competition to get thinks back on track. Or an egg toss. One of those.

Kyle Long isn’t buying the Matt Nagy hype
Now this isn’t the first time Long has been vocal about the coaching staff. He seemed to have a beef with them after benching him last season. Though he admitted his play wasn’t good, he felt like the team was basically forcing him to make a choice. Retire or go somewhere else. Not interested in playing for another team, Long chose the former.
So it would make sense that he might harbor a slight grudge against Nagy. Something he even admitted to during the game.
Okay, I am salty. AND THATS OKAY

That said, he doesn’t have unfounded reasons to be angry. He’s indicated for months that the Bears lacked an identity last season. That falls at the feet of the head coach. It appears the problem remains unsolved, which is a further indictment on Nagy. Long isn’t stupid. He knows offensive football. He’s seen what it looks like when it’s good.
It’s clear he doesn’t think Nagy is capable of producing that.
