For those who somehow don’t know, Kyle Long isn’t a fan of Matt Nagy. The former Pro Bowl guard never had a problem with any of the other head coaches he played for. So it was shocking how much he failed to hide his dislike for the former Chicago Bears head coach. Most of it stems from two incidents. One was Nagy calling him a “gutless bitch” during a game in 2019 against the Las Vegas Raiders. Considering that Long was playing hurt at the time, it isn’t hard to understand why he took that personally. The other was that Nagy was the primary man responsible for releasing him after that season.
Ever since then, Long hasn’t been shy about throwing jabs at the former coach from time to time, making it clear how little he thought of him. Well, his latest effort might’ve been his meanest yet. A video came out this week of Nagy throwing passes at practice for the Kansas City Chiefs. It was another reminder he’d been a good quarterback in his time.
It’s not the first time he’s done this. Nagy did something similar as head coach of the Bears. Long couldn’t resist the opportunity, though. He sounded off with a simple quote tweet that reminded him of his former coach’s greatest disappointment.
As always, Kyle Long has zero chill.
That is why Bears fans love him. He’s not afraid to speak his mind. Using a training camp video as a callback to what was the beginning of Nagy’s plunge as a coach in the NFL is scathing. Most would agree the Double Doink in January of 2019 changed him. He was never quite the same after that loss. Nagy seemed to grow more controlling, less patient and pressed more and more for things to be done a certain way. He also didn’t seem to have much respect for guys that gave everything they had to make the team successful.

Nothing infuriated Kyle Long more than his treatment of the quarterbacks. Nagy’s stubbornness with his offensive system led to Mitch Trubisky, Nick Foles, and Justin Fields all struggling. The head coach clearly refused to adjust his scheme to fit what they did best. As a result, the offense never functioned properly. To say nothing of his bad habit of constantly overhauling his staff. Long may not hate Nagy, but it is clear he will never have much respect for him.
Nagy was a tool here, and will be anywhere he lands … anything he gets is well deserved!
Pretty sure Nagy wasn’t the kicker who double doinked. How long do we have to still talk about Pace & Nagy?? My God. U can hate him all u want. He was still the HC of a the year for the 2018 season. Nobody ever brings that up amongst all the hate. It didn’t work out with Nagy, and it’s done with. Let it die.
Matt Nagy oversold himself to the McCaskey’s and Pace and they bought what he was selling. As head coach he was out of his comfort zone. Now he gets to ride the coat tails of Patrick Mahomes and head coach Andy Reid. He may yet get a second shot at head coach someday and maybe he’ll learn from his past mistakes. I’m happy those years are behind us but there is still much to do to bring this organization back to prominence.
At some point you need to move on. We have.
