Something went wrong whenever your offense scores only 15 points in a game. That is especially true when you’re playing against an average defense in every statistical category. The first instinct for most people in the Chicago Bears’ loss to the Washington Commanders was to blame Caleb Williams. The rookie quarterback didn’t have a great game, going 10-of-24 for 131 yards. A number of his throws were off-target, and he seemed to hold the ball too long—just a young quarterback making mistakes. Well, Kurt Warner wasn’t having any of that.
The Hall of Famer is notorious for being a harsh critic when evaluating the tape of other quarterbacks. He’s given Williams poor grades in the past. However, this time was different. He spoke to Spiegs & Holmes for 670 The Score about what happened last Sunday. From what he saw, the far bigger issue was how crappy of a job offensive coordinator Shane Waldron did getting receivers open. Washington was on top of everything he tried, leaving Williams with nowhere to throw most of the game.
Kurt Warner raises further questions about Bears coaching staff.
Sunday may have been Waldron’s worst performance of the year. Managing 15 points and 131 yards passing against a defense with a weak secondary is inexcusable. Then, there are the baffling sequences in the red zone in the 4th quarter. One drive ended with the handoff to Doug Kramer, a backup lineman, who promptly fumbled. The other almost ended in disaster before Keenan Allen saved it by drawing a pass interference. Waldron was supposed to be a considerable upgrade over Luke Getsy. Too often, it feels like he’s just a different version of the same thing.

When Kurt Warner, who is as hard on quarterbacks as anybody, says coaching was the problem? You need to pay attention. Warner is always big on the details. He knows when something is off about how a coach decides to attack an opponent. After all, he played for some really good play callers like Mike Martz and Todd Haley. Maybe it was an isolated incident, but it sounds like Waldron lacks a certain knack for creating space for his receivers, which is incredible, considering who he has to work with.
The Chargers are currently a bottom 5 scoring team that is being carried by their defense, which has given up the least amount of points by a wide margin.
The Chargers offense averages 10 more yards per game than us.
@TWTY: First, I predict that your position on hiring Harbaugh as the Bears HC won’t age well. I suspect that in 3-5 years, he will have worn out his welcome with the Chargers, and will be looking for his next job, after having had some success, but not to the level that SF had with him at the helm. Second, I don’t understand why you post here with the constant theme of trying to show how you are smarter then all the rest of us, and if the Bears had just done what you told us all they should do,… Read more »
It is clear to me that Flus the Fluker on defense and Shane the Drifter on offense were shamefully terrible against Washington. They were not even professionals of the game.
Are Morgan and Davis really going to change and do their jobs before divisional play? Who is pushing local Kramer v. Kramer to be highlighted? He is no Perry! Watching the old movie will give you a big clue. It was a comedy of errors against a good but beatable team possessing real coaching and injured talent used.
TOM WADDLE TOLD YA. All offseason long, you dumbshits were creaming your pants about Shane Waldron this and Shane Waldron that, and I was like “Who tf is Shane Waldron? The guy Seattle gladly let go?” Oh, but, but he’s the genius who resurrected Geno Smith’s career durrrrr hurrrrr With Flus running the defense and Shaaaaane Waaaaldron running the offense, now we’re gonna own those Puker Cheeseheads, We don’t need Jim Harbaugh, he wants too much money durrr.
I swear man, you fkn numbskulls DESERVE every shitty Bears team you’ve been getting for the past FORTY YEARS.
Let’s be real, the offensive line is pure dog shit. With all the injuries and absolutely zero depth, it’s tough to expect anything more than what they can do.
Of course the play calling had been brutal the 1st few weeks. I thought the play calling improved over the last 4, except for that boneheaded hand off call to Kramer.
Let’s hope Poles brings in some Oline help, w/o giving away any serious draft capital.
