The Chicago Bears offseason is moving into the free agency period. With the NFL Combine now complete, the Bears front office will be busy preparing to sign new contracts when free agency officially begins on Wednesday, March 12. However, many deals will start taking shape over the next week, with official announcements expected on March 12—just as the Bears quickly signed D’Andre Swift at the start of free agency last year.
One name generating buzz is Khalil Mack and the possibility of his return to Chicago. Reports suggest mutual interest between the Bears and Mack.

Just makes sense for both Chicago and Mack. Especially if it's a 1-2 year deal.

Over the past three seasons with the Chargers, Mack has proven to be both durable and productive:

At 34 years old, Mack still has plenty left in the tank, especially if paired with another elite edge rusher like Montez Sweat. The key question is: What will it take to sign him?
How Much Will Khalil Mack Cost?
This is where things get interesting. Ideally, the Bears would sign Mack to a one- or two-year deal, and Mack appears open to that timeline. However, Pro Football Focus projects his next contract to be two years, $45 million with an average annual value of $22.5 million and $40 million guaranteed.

Is that too much for a 34-year-old edge rusher? It might be, but it could also reflect his market value. If the Bears want to allocate resources elsewhere, committing $40 million guaranteed to Mack may be a tough decision for GM Ryan Poles. A potential solution could be negotiating a more team-friendly deal with incentives to bridge the gap.
Regardless, Mack will be a name to watch closely as free agency heats up.
Mack is still a decent player, but he isn’t a every down starter anymore. Paying 20 mil a year for what would basically be a 3rd down specialist is not worth the expected return for investment. Especially when we have no idea what A Booker may become under D Allen.
I respect @Dave for reading the comments and contributing to the conversation. We all mostly spew opinions so I really don’t understand why people have to get belligerent over difference in opinion. My post earlier in the conversation had a snarky tone and I was completely wrong. No opinion involved, just me not reading the entire piece before I posted my ignorance. It’s not the 1st or last time I’ll post ignorantly, but I will hold myself accountable after it’s pointed out.
Next Wednesday, March 12th at 4pm, FAs can officially sign new contracts. Poles will need to act fast to ink Center Drew Dalman. Then, he needs to choose between Guards Fries, Becton and Zeitler. And of course, what about Edge? JSweat, CYoung and KMack headline the DEs.
Would you cut Bates $4mil and Santos $2mil? What would you do? Let’s hear it!
You’ve got about $80 mil in cap. You need $13mil for Draft and maybe $10mil in reserve. Who do you sign???
Sorry, but Mack is now a 3rd down specialist like Ngakoue. He’s better but don’t expect much more. Can’t pay him like an every down guy anymore.
Damn Dave reads the comments! Haha nice. But hell yeah bring Mack back so I can bust out his jersey again on game days baby. Dude can still play at a high level. If we can get him for under 20 mil there’s no reason not to. Well have an elite D line again that will give OCs nightmares.
