Keenan Allen’s presence is already making an impact at Bears training camp. Known for his typically calm demeanor, Allen occasionally shows a different side, as seen during his time with the Chargers. The vocal Bears secondary might be drawing this out of him. This was evident on Saturday during the Bears’ longest practice yet, lasting over two hours. Near the end of practice, Allen was on the sideline, yelling at second-year corner Tyrique Stevenson, who was a step behind a Bears receiver during a rep. Allen repeatedly said, “You are checked out, Rique. You checked out a little bit ago.”
While it seemed like Allen was just trying to get under Stevenson’s skin, it also appeared to be a veteran’s way of motivating. Stevenson initially chirped back at Allen but then also raised his intensity, finishing Saturday’s practice strong. It’s encouraging to see Allen’s ability to motivate players like this.
@timgjerde56 —
Again, we agree on many points.
But, Kiran Amegadjie is the only player one has difficulty finding in videos.
The NCAA video history of players such as Austin Booker and Payton Wilson, among countless others is readily available (in various formats).
Finally, we have never met. I don’t know — and you don’t know me.
I won’t presume to know what you’re thinking.
It’s just keeps things neater that way.
@TGena I appreciate the thoughtful and detailed response, but life is full of opportunities to politely agree to disagree on certain points. Facts do not exist in the future unless you’re talking about the odds of the sun coming up in the morning. Even that will be challenged at some point. Facts only exist sometimes for a short time too. The sun is only up until night takes over. So too with the performance of human beings. Facts in the form of statistical analysis only last until they are overtaken by new statistics or facts after that, they are ancient… Read more »
@Slip Knotz & @timgjerde56 — This possibly may be something neither of you want to hear — but we are in agreement on many points. The Bears GM can structure the roster, the coaching staff, the salary cap and the team culture (and everything else) in any manner he wants — because his future (as well, of course the future of the team) turns on his performance. I have been, and remain a “harsh critic” of an impetuous and “inept judge of NFL talent, proficiency and value” — namely, Bears’ GM, Ryan Poles Now, let me address the issue of… Read more »
@TGena Interesting take, but we are always in the position of 20/20 hindsight, aren’t we? Viewing video is the closest be get, but even that doesn’t clearly identify the conversations before the video or the actual plan in effect at the moment. I respect your right to an opinion, but I think Ryan Poles can continue to spend as he wishes as long as the results (Nate Davis a possible exception) being what they are. We are all at the mercy of time as you put it so eloquently. Be careful of violating your own premise “Time reveals Truth,” because… Read more »
Good little article, now how about one on Tory and how he is doing. If he is hitting long high punts and the Bears Defense is going to be as good as everyone says there is going to be a lot of short fields for the offense. How crucial was field position in last years Super Bowl.
