Justin Fields Surprisingly Blunt About His Performance Vs. Texans

-

Justin Fields has high expectations of himself. He’s made that clear repeatedly since the Chicago Bears drafted him. The young man is a competitor and wants to play well. Unfortunately, he likely didn’t dream up this start to the 2022 season. For the second time in three weeks, an opponent successfully held him to less than 50% of passes completed. He has two touchdowns and four interceptions while failing to crack 200 yards in the past two games combined.

He also got sacked five times and fumbled twice. It was the exact type of game he played through the first half of his rookie seasons. People have tried giving him the benefit of the doubt. It’s a brand new offense under Luke Getsy. The supporting cast isn’t great. Still, it’s impossible to defend his performance when the Bears ran for 284 yards on the ground. He had no business looking that bad. To his credit, Fields didn’t sugarcoat it after the game. The QB told it like it was.

“Just got to get better. I think that’s it. Straight up, I played likeー I want to say the “a” word, but I won’t, so I’ll say I just played like trash. Played terrible, and really just gotta be better.”

His answer was immediate when asked specifically what he needs to work on.

“A lot of things.”

Justin Fields won’t survive at this rate.

People keep talking about how bad the Bears’ supporting cast is. Reality says different. They have one of the best running games in the NFL right now. Receivers have been open more than anybody wants to admit. The pass protection isn’t always great, but Fields makes it worse by having poor pocket presence and field vision. He’s creating a lot of these problems himself with indecisiveness. Nobody is panicking. Not at 2-1. Even so, the Bears can’t make excuses for him forever.

At some point, Justin Fields needs to start playing like the former 1st round pick he is. He knows that. The Bears might be able to justify an average season from him, but he’s on course for one of the worst runs a QB has had in this city in the past 30 years. Considering how low that bar is? It’s a sobering thought. GM Ryan Poles and head coach Matt Eberflus love Fields the person. It won’t take much more for them to grow tired of Fields the quarterback at this rate.

After 2 years Dan Patrick famously questioned whether Josh Allen was going to make it as a QB in the NFL. Having a defensive HC does not streamline QB development.

Again, follow the Lamar Jackson/Kyle Orton method. The online is great at run blocking and still meshing on the pass blocking. Use that formula of running until they get together. We have been waiting on the franchise QB forever, show some patience!

I honestly see a very depressed young man.As usual the so called FANS and the media are just shredding him.Just need 1 game with some momentum and Im sure he will breakout. If your a fan just support the kid, trashing him isnt going to help him at all.I hope someone on the team has confiscated his phones and tablets and makes sure he isnt watchn any TV! GO BEARS and especially GO JUSTIN FIELDS!

He’s got until December. I hope he can stay healthy. I don’t need to see Trevor Simian. I am pretty sure Simian would be better right now and win an extra game or two. But that’s not the point. We are attempting to witness the growth of a QB. Steve Young pointed out that you should be able to see it “this year” from Fields. So we need to know. We need to know if he’s sinking or swimming. We need some facts. Hard data please. It’s a classic risk-reward scenario. There’s no need to sugar coat it. He really… Read more »
